What is the worse thing that could happen while adjust your truss rod?
I got sick of the terrible action on my G 310 and so I went adjusting the action and intonation, and I noticed that the neck was bowed a little bit, so I took a bold leap of faith, and starting messing with the truss rod. So now the action and whatnot is set up a little better. So this should last me a few months till I get my Schecter that I've been wanting.

all necks have a little bow...it's supposed to.....notes will fret out from time to time due to a LACK of sufficient bow. you need to have bow in order to give enough relief(space) for the strings to NOT fret out. if you set your bridge up TOO low you will get buzz. you then raise the bridge(saddles) a little bit to alleviate that buzz. if you have to set the action up WAY high to avoid buzz, THEN you may wish to do a bow adjustment.(pretty much as a last resort). it is easy to overadjust your truss rod. it should only be adjusted in very small(1/8 to 1/25) increments. if you turned it a whle 180 degrees OR more than you probably overadjusted it big time. click on the click to be fully educated on truss rod adjustments. most ppl take it to a pro even though IT IS a relatively simple procedure. but just blindly going at it IS a mistake...

This is extreme but you can overtighten the truss nut until it buries itself into the wood. Also, I saw one pic a while back on the internet where the fretboard was actually forced away from the neck. However, I looked on the internet for damage to guitars from truss rod adjustment and I couldn't find even one picture or report of actual damage. However, every website that gives instruction on truss adjustment warns of the possiblity of damage and recommends a tech do it. If you hear wood cracking and creaking your are doing something wrong.

I personnally will always do my own truss adjustments. Just remember to take is slow. Small turns at a time (1/8th at a time approximately) and give the neck some time to change shape between turns. Check for string clearance at fret 7 while fretting 1 and 14 or us a straightedge to check clearance across the neck. You want just enough neck relief to prevent fret noise. If you want to raise the action from there do it by adjusting the bridge.

occasionally, when you adjust your truss rod, a gate to hell can open outside of your bedroom. upon enteing that gate you are greeted by an old man named diarmuid. he will say "the truss is tight with you... is it?" and then the gate randomly closes. causing a sulfer smell to linger and a burn mark on your rugt. not cool....BE CAREFUL!

I had to do it, just turn it very slightly and wait a day. then if its not what you want turn it slightly back or more. simple enough.

Wait a day tho, cause it takes a while for the wood to morph around the rod.
