Ok so my friend wanted to do a talent show at my school so I had to learn a new song so we did alright but I'm not very experienced and I have a little while and on tryouts I freaked but still made it and during practice today in front of more people was ok but in front of the whole school about 600 - 700 people plus teachers was bad enough but now today we find out were going to be on freaking local tv so is there any tips for playing live or in front of alot I mean alot of people other than the normal stuff like act like your by yourself or just stay calm or practice more or play in front of small groups of people just come on, HELP!

Wow dude that's awesome. Well I had a similar experience as you. My band played at our school talent show in front of a bunch of people. I was nervous at first, but the whole crowd started cheering and everything and the lights were on and the crowd was all black so I just thought of myself and my nerves went away.

For everyone in my band, it was our first on stage performance. Just loosen p and have fun, that's all u gotta do man. If you want to check the video of us playing go to:

www.myspace.com/lucidreamers and find the videos and go to the last video video.

Remember man just have fun.

People can be very supportive when they see a new act trying. It's normal to be nervous. Just do your best and know that most people WANT to see you guys do well. Try to stay as loose as you can. Also know that your doing something that most of the people watching don't have the guts to do, so even if it doesn't come off perfect, hey, you tried. If anybody criticizes you, and I don't believe they will, just say "I played in front of 700 people on live TV. What did you do today?"

What Fred said.
But shutting everyone else out is still the best advice. It's just you and your guitar and you're rocking out like nobody's business. The less you think about it the less likely you are to black out. And if you do make a mistake just keep on playing. Nobody will notice unless you allow yourself to loose focus.

I have been on stage (theatrical performance, I didn't play guitar at the time). I have been nervous and I have stalled and made mistakes. I even had a guy who was supposed to help me remember my lines but his script was messed up and he was whispering all the wrong lines to me so I had to fight the distraction and come up with the correct lines.
Did anyone notice my mistakes? No!

Remember, the audience doesn't have the script (or music sheet in your case). Then there is the factor of personal interpretation when doing cover songs. There is no wrong note.

Just practice continuing to play after a mistake.

I've got rediculous problem with being nervous when playing live. It's been a while since I did any live performance but this is how it was for me every show. About 2 hours before performing I'm a complete wreck and ready to puke. Staying busy helps out alot. Checking over your rig and stuff is a great way to eat up the time before the show. The good thing is that every time I've ever played live that nervousness disappears as soon as I start playing. It's like magic.

Push thru it and don't let being nervous stop you.

No actually it is not. It IS you AND the rest of the band. Pay attention to them, listen to what they are doing.
At the end of the day no one will notice or even remember the mistakes just the good parts.

He didn't say he's in a band. I don't remember him ever mentioning it. As far as I'm concerned he is solo... So my point stands.

Playing live no matter how nervous you are about it results in the best feeling ever during the show and afterwards. Think of going bunji jumping. stare over the bridge, jump and enjoy the ride and gain an experience that will remain with you forever. Every show is anew bridge to jump off.
