I like it on Needle and the Spoon from Skynyrd and also on Voodoo Chile from Hendrix. It takes a little getting used to.

The main themes of Joe Satriani's songs "Surfing with the Alien" and the "Crush of Love" demonstrate, in my opinion, a very effective and tasteful use of the Wah pedal.

Wah is a cool tool and tricky to play tastefully. I got a couple of them and they collect dust because I don't feel worthy enough to step on them.

Which wah did you get?

Yeah same, I have a integrated wah pedal in my GT-6, but I dont ever use it much, I just don't really know how. Seems stupid on my part I guess, I'll never learn how if I don't ever use it huh?

You should also try clicking it on,find a good tone and leave in that position. you can get some monster pinch harmonics. I read an interview with Zakk Wilde and he said that he does that too.

A lot of cool shreds from the TV show Metalocalypse use the wah pedal. Pretty cool stuff, on the official site they have a video showing you how to play the theme song. The guy in the video (the shows creator) has a Gibson explorer running through a wah pedal, but I can't tell what kind specifically.

"Blood" by Pearl Jam has some awesome wah, I like "wherever I may Roam" by Metallica too.

i feel like it kidna goes underused these days.

most grunge bands used it a lot (soungarden, AIC, PJ, Candlebox, stuff from that time/genre)

i'd have to say anything that vai or satch plays with a wah really sounds good, even though vai's wah is spring loaded, i still like the sound it gets.

Johnny Cox had an excellent idea that I had totally forgotten (thanks J.C.)
Using the pedal just as a colorer. ie: Mick Ronson (on David Bowie's Ziggy stardust and the spiders from mars), Mott the Hoople, Stones, and alot of other british bands.
Learn to sweep, such as Isaac Hayes-Theme to Shaft, Sly and the Family Stone, Ohio express players, and other funk music. It will help you keep your beat!!

Jimi, SRV, Slash. I think Slash and Zakk have them on all the time, especially during solos. Kirk Hammett might have overdone it a few times.

I bought a Cry Baby Jimi, use it during solos. A buddy of mine loves his set in one position, as posted above.

A buddy of mine was giving me pointers on wahs in solos and he said, try to complement the phrases that you are playing with the wah. i.e. If you are starting off a measure with a slew of 16th notes, rolling down to a low power chord, start in the heel position and roll to the toe for the chord.

Have fun, Chris
