I noticed on a few videos that Paul Gilbert has an Ibanez RG with a single coil in the neck...it's obvious it's a home job because it was just mounted in the place of the humbucker, leaving half the hole open. From what I can tell, it sounds decent...just look up a video of him playing Scarified and Viking Kong at Guitar Wars...it's that guitar.

My question is: I have an Ibanez RG350 that I traded some old junk for, and I'm not happy with the stock pickups. I already have an RG320 with 2 evolutions, so my humbucker jones is dealt with.

So what would you think about pulling a Paul Gilbert and putting 3 single coils in there? I'm thinking Dimarzio Solos or Virtual '58's. It'll look weird for sure. I'm more worried about it sounding kind of thin though being an Ibanez with an Edge trem.

Just so you know, unless I get someone who has done it and had awful results, I'm probably going to do it anyway. ;)

I'd say keep a bucker in the bridge and put like 2 hot rails in the neck
