Hey all, new here. Everyone starts on either acoustic or electric. I started on acoustic guitar and really haven't gotten away from it for 2 years. Primarily because I still just love the sound of acoustic music over electric.

I was wondering, and I'm sure everyone has this, What song sparked your interest to jump from acoustic to electric or vice versa? I dabbled with learning the Back to the Future classic Johnny B Goode on electric but I still don't have the urge to really get hardcore into it.

What was your song of conversion?

I started on classical, because that's what I had.
I went to electric because I was discovering rock and was deep into my Ritchie Blackmore appreciation phase.
I got me an acoustic for practical reasons of portability and independence from plugs and cables and all that mess.
I really gained appreciation for the acoustic guitar when I discovered the delta blues. That led me to getting a second acoustic too.
I'm still more of an electric player than I am an acoustic.

So I never really converted. I just broadened my scope. *wink*

I started on acoustic and like every player wanted more so I got an electric, an amp and a multi fx pedal. and I started playing with my youngest brother who is definitely a electric player. Still for some reason I am finding it tough to convert, In fact my brother and I are finding the combination of some electric and acoustic a fierce sound. But still I work at the electric and hope to find a sound I like and can build on but I find the electric guitar not so easily mastered. I know my main trouble is playing it like an acoustic which it is not but the roar of an acoustic is irresistible.

well heres my story. i used to live in London and was a closed minded idiot who never gave any type music (besides rap) a chance.
but wen i moved here to Cyprus, my best mates all introduced me to rock bands, like System of a Down, Metallica.
i was jus totally amazed!
one of my friends told me he could teach me guitar if i wanted. he said ''if you start learning now, we could be playing Creeping Death together within a year''
at first i said no, but after a few more months of listening to more and more rock and metal, i had to begin learning guitar. i went straight to electric, and taught myself, and saw progress. and best of all, i enjoyed every second of it!
Now, i still play electric, and also play acoustic and a bit of bass. my mind has opened, giving more music happiness and opportunities.
the end

I started on acoustic as well. I had the urge a few years back, after playing acoustics exclusively for over 20 years, to get an electric. Just because. Not due to wanting to learn anything in particular. I shopped for months and couldn't find anything I was satisfied with. Then I realized... I play acoustic 12 strings. I needed a 12 string electric if I was going to go that way. An Epi 12 string and a Rickenbacker later, I still play the acoustic.

I just don't like the electric and only use them for recording if I want that sound there.

As far as conversion?

I convert the rock music I like to acoustic versions. Not that I can't play electric, but I'm a LOT better on acoustic. (Personal feeling.)

I play acoustic and electric equally. No conversion either way here. If I feel like turning on my rig, I play electric. If I don't, I play acoustic.

I started playing classical music on a cello. i made some friends and they showed me their dream instrument which is an electric guitar. I had learned how to play the main riff in Sweet Home Alabama from them and from that point on I wanted an electric guitar. Once i got my guitar my friends and decided to play stairway to heaven with 3 guitars through the whole piece, only no acoustic guitars only electric. At the time i wasn't a big fan of the song but it soon grew on me I came to admire the way the acoustic sounded and how it blended with the electric during the middle of the song. From that point on i have played both acoustic and electric.

I have only an acoustic guitar. Therefore, that's what I play. I really want to play electric and always have. I know some stuff, but seeing as how I don't have an electric of my own, I don't get much practice. I want to play electric because I love to rock and I love shreddy guitar solos. That stuff just gets me hot. I want to do that.

I started on electric and I still prefer electric. HOWEVER, when I heard Innuendo by Queen for the first time, I started a love affair with Flamenco music, although Innuendo (my favorite Queen song BTW) has Flamenco-esque elements, and not true Flamenco, I began seeking out Flamenco wherever I could find it. As a result, I made it my business to buy nylon string acoustics. I have 3 now, and I WILL buy 1) a true Flamenco guitar and 2) a 7 string classical guitar.

My mom loves to play flamenco and classical. I hate playing the nylon string acoustics because it feels like I'm playing a toy. It could also be my mom's guitar specifically...it's an Ovation (plastic). But she's die hard classical and flamenco all the way and would never pick up an electric. I guess she just doesn't like to rock. LoL

My conversion was after I finally decided to buy a leftie strat by squier that i found on the internet. Before that I had been playing an acoustic. Of course, since all my favorite music is rock, that was my reason.

I started out on classical...well mostly bc that's all they sell in Brazil. I lived there for 4 years. I came back to the states where I began learning some acoustic stuff like strumming, and church/worship. bought an acoustic about 2 years into my learning. Then my great grandfather(who can play as good as chet atkins) saw some hope in my future so he started teaching me...I'm the only person he's taught in 50 years...so I started playing some chet atkins, les paul,...those guys...until I hit a dead point where I couldn't recreate their sounds without and electric...so I saved up money and bought a les paul...I love to play the acoustic and classical...but I'm significantly better at the electric...but still you just can't beat the mellow echoing sounds of a good acoustic solo...My friends also got me interested in some metal and alternative stuff...so I play alot of that now...but I still can't help returning to my humble origins of country guitar...considering I'm 16 it's fairly amazing to most people that I play that kind of music. Sitting and soloing with an acoustic is fun...but not near as fun as rocking out on stage!!!
