Seriously... What's your thing? Myself, I'm a fuzz guy. I LOVE the Big Muff PI, I wish I'd had one years ago. It's the best pedal ever (For me!)

So amp dist, pedal dist, tbe solid state, what's your deal?

I like wet ridiculously overdriven tube sound or just mildly driven tube-ish sound.

No particular issues with solid state distortion. My amp is solid state but I don't like its distortion.
So I use a POD to rectify the tone and then do whatever. My bro's is ss too and he makes it sound nice.

Tubescreamer and smashbox into tubescreamer both into a clean tube amp are 2 representative tones I like.

I'm a slave to cranking the gain to max, throwing on a high end distortion pedal, and pushing the overdrive button.

I like a really smooth distortion. I really like the Hermida Zendrive pedals, I\'m thinking about pulling the trigger on one here shortly.

it changes depending on what im working on. recently, i dont know why, but i've been rolling the gain back from the usual 8 or 9 and almost cutting the bass back to 25%.

normally i like some SS amps like randalls and i love peaveys (XXX, 5150/6505). hell, id even settle for the XXL after the crap I have now.

i like a small amount of distortion. a semi hollow with a smooth distortion enough to know its dirty, not enough to kill chord qualities.

one of these days i'm going to try to capture my electric with this tone...every electric recording i've done has sucked...

Y'know, every electric recording I've done has bit the bg one tone-wise. Why? because of POD's and Boss's... Not that they're bad, but the difference between direct in tone and miced amp tone is like night and day. At the moment, I'm SERIOUSLY into fuzz.. it's almost not right how into fuzz I am...

I like big distortion; really heavy and tight. The kind you use for a ridiculous metal solo, even though I don't play a lot of metal. I like the kind that you could use to make the most hardcore kid bow his head to Bach. That of course could be nylon string acoustic, if the kid knows what he's doing. But you know. The intense stuff like Cacophony.

p.s. line 6 uber metal

i like the sound of my Metal Zone with my peavey tnt 130. The TNT 130 is a bass amp with a big deep 15" speaker and with the drive of the metal zone and with an ok eq, it sounds alright. the pre push/pull knob has a short. i need to replace it. i haven't recorded anything with it in like 4 years though. with a really shitty mic, too.

here. i found a link to the song. yikes.

The tone from either my beloved Budda, or from most Soldano amps. I rarely find a pedal that does distortion as well as a good preamp.

True enough, there's nothing like the power of a raging head... But then again, there's nothing quite like the flavour of a "Big Muff Pi" heh

Dude, I have yet to try out the "Little Big Muff Pi". I want to badly...

t's funny, I used to have a Metalzone (MT2), and I loved it. 20 years later, and I can't get into it. I have friends that can make the thing sound awesome, but not me...

(Actually, it sounds decent to me when Strats are played through it...)

I like all kinds of distortion depending on what I feel like playing at the moment. I tend to switch between styles, so it differs. I personally like the sound of solid-states for the heavy stuff, and the warm, tube feel for more a rock tone. As far as the most unique-sounding distortion, I'd have to go with the Fuzz. I have a Analog Man Fuzzface and some of the sounds you can get out of that, especially in combo with other effects, are amazing. What's great about that pedal as well, is that you can roll back the volume and it turns the saturation down with it.

I like my MXR Distortion II. I think it\'s a very versatile pedal and works well with a tube amp. The sound is very unique and warm, which I appreciate in a distortion pedal.

It changes sometimes but the two most common I could describe is a fat heavy distortion ala David Gilmour in Pink Floyds \"sorrow\". (see vid, gilmour is using a big muff btw)

Or a really fat overdriven tube sound kind of similar to the solo\'s in bad company\'s \"feel like making love\" or mountains \"mississippi queen\".

I just use the gain on my Fender Ultimate Chorus. Depending on the mood, if Iwant that 70's style sound I'll run it between 3 or 4, or for the metal flavor I'll run it anywhere from 8 to 10.

I like chunky porwerchords and catchy riffs at a slow tempo, plenty of gain, but not too much, i have to be able to make out the original tone of the guitar, i find that big muff is the classic, best ever, also the boss ds-1, but another great one is the behringer vintage tube overdrive, and really cheap too
