I tend to get wordy, like Wordsworth, even though I wish it could be like Vonnegut. Short and sweet this time...what do you cats have to say about custom makers? I want to get another guitar but I wanted it to be something truly ridiculous! Great design, playability, woods, electro-magnetics and such. What obscure makers do you connoisseurs of string-ed beauty know of that still build by hand and machine their own parts? Bring it!

Do you mean who here makes guitars? I'm in the process of building a guitar to donate to Relay for Life for an auction. Check out my progress at mattguitar.wordpress.com

I'm looking forward to seeing this guitar come together. Very cool idea for a great cause!

Depending on how lenient you are with the whole "by hand" think, you might check out Joe Driskill (driskillguitars.com). I have one of his guitars and hope he'll finish another one for me soon. Even though he uses CNCs, he does wacky (but cool) things like machining his trems from a single piece of brass. Same with the pickup rings. Trem and control covers are made out of carbon fiber with wood laminated on them to maintain a consistent look on the back of the guitar.

There are some more pix of my Driskill at aleclee.com/cms/content/view/15/34/

i'm gonna try my hand at building one...i've got some of the plans worked out...these things are so precise in some areas and in others it doesn't matter what you do. (go look at an xplorer guitar)
