Hello guys, this is my first time here at guitar.com and it seems pretty cool so far. Heres my problem. I'm wanting a new Schecter, but not sure which one to buy. I'm trying to decide between the Schecter C-1 FR: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-?sku=518491 and the Schecter C-1 Artist: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Schecter-C1-Artist-Limited-Edition-Electric-Guitar?sku=518187 So what do you guys think?

I haven't bought electric guitars for more than twenty years, so I don't know how valid these suggestions might be. Having said that, I would never buy a guitar I hadn't played. Why? You shouldn't buy a guitar that doesn't respond to you, and to play it is the only way to find out whether it will. What's more, I wouldn't audition it through an amp. Why not? A great-sounding guitar with great electronics, matched with a great amp will always sound better than a mediocre-sounding guitar with great electronics, matched with a great amp. Plus, you'll find it easier to modify the electronics than the wood. Lastly, cost should be ignored. What?! If you want it bad enough, you can afford it. It's better to have bought and lost than never to have bought at all. And it's hard to live with yourself knowing you let a great one get away. Buy it because you sound good on it; not because it looks good in a magazine - or because you "can't afford" the one you'd prefer.

Well, Im gonna end up trying them both out sooner or later at a shop, if i can find a place with some schecters, but I was just lookin at them online until then. Good advice by the way. Also, being almost 16, money is kinda tough to come by in large amounts, but still I understand what you are saying. Thanks for the help, and anyone else have any advice on these two guitars?

Hmm, the tone Im wanting from one of these would be like a Synyster Gates/avenged sevenfold tone... Im wanting it for metal, hard rock and stuff like that. I have a MIM Fender Stratocaster for blues, and all that good stuff, and now I need a humbuckers sound. Not sure how to answer "What sort of player are you currently"

When I'm that undecided, I either go with the least expensive or I buy all of them. (I'm a collector of sorts)

My suggestion would be:

Get the one with the Floyd, especially if you already know how to string and tune a Floyd up.

I have to put in my plug here for my favorite company:

Have you tried Ibanez? They have a few shechter-like guitars. Their SZ and RGT series are pretty sweet. They also have a new les paul copy, the ART100 that's pretty cool.

Most of the sound you're looking for will be in the pickups. For the modern heavy tone, hot pickups + hot amp is a good way to get there. I would suggest either EMG's or Dimarzios for you, especially the EMG 81 and the Dimarzio dActivators, Evolutions, and Super Distortions.

Shechter's a good company too from what I can tell...I've never heard a bad thing about them.

Shane puts out some great ideas, see if theres any ibanez's to try at your shop. The SZ's are pretty comfortable to mess around with, very small and light. I've never heard of an RGT was that a typo when you were trying to put RG or what? I think most modern stuff is done with ibanez's i know the guy from Shadow's Fall uses one and i think Avenged Sevenfold might. I think most of them use a Mesa Boogie for their stuff.

Well there are 2 RGT models, but I was actually thinking about the RGA models when I typed that.

RGAs are carved-top RGs. The RGA321F is the one I was thinking of. RGT's are the traditional RG body shape but with a thru neck and a hard tail. The RGT42FXQM is an example of those.

Given, those are a bit more expensive than either the C1's or the SZ series. As far as the SZ's being lightweight...I didn't think so. They're a fairly thick mahogany bodied guitar, so they felt heavier than what I play on most of the time anyway.

might have been a jackson model of some sorts i was thinking of when i put lightweight, i played them both within like 15 minutes of each other and all i did was a few open chords and the opening to barcelona nights (i was curious to how it would sound with some metal effects haha)

So for the hot pickups, the ones in the FR will be best because they are active. Also, for an amp, I have a line 6 Spider 3 modeling amp.. might ask for a better one for Christmas or something, cuz its only a 15 watt amp for me to practice with. And about Ibanez's, I like them, and Ive played a couple, but Im just wanting to go with schecter. thanks for all the help so far guys.

my band's drummer has a schecter, it's a c-1 classic. it's amazing, plays like a dream. the stock pickups are pretty hot as they are, but i guess the emg's will be hotter. and who doesn't love an FR? i managed to get a us strat classic HH with one on it =D
