9's are a lot easier to play and don't stress the neck as much as higher gauges. They're also easier to deal with in the factory when you're stringing a new guitar.

yup, and you will find that there are certain guitars that DO come with 10's, like higher end jacksons, because so many people put them on for the styles of music that jacksons are good for. but lower end models, they want to make easier to play for beginners so they will buy them and not say "i dont want this one because it hurts my fingers..."

ok i guess for begginers its ok. they just feel like spaghetti to me can't dig into em like i can with .10's. i find when i do dig into em they sound like they go slightly out of tune...

i had a 7 string that came with .13's but those ripped the shit outa my fingers the low B was a .60 or something gross like that.

because they play like butter and then you buy them and take them home and they aren't so great when you cheange the strings... that's my theory.

A CEO figured that he could save 50 cents on lighter guage strings. If they string 100.000 guitars in 1 year, they have saved 50,000 dollars.

I am a beginner. I got one of those Laguna packs with the amp from guitar center. My Guitar came with .09, but I changed them a week after I had them to .10, just because I figured the factory strings would not sounds as good and I got the .10 because that seems to be the standard.

Since I am a beginner should I have stuck with the .09?

I want to play mainly rock is there a major reason I should have .10 or .09?

Nah... Play with what you feel comfortable with.

I play mostly acoustics and if I pick up an electric with 9's on it, I have a really difficult time keeping my playing in tune because I tend to press as hard as I do when playing an acoustic. (Since I play 12's its even worse on a six!) I have 10's on all the studio guitars as that seems to work well for most. On my personal electric, I use 11's, even though it's a 12 string. The same gauge on electrics seem to play softer than on an acoustic.

I hate .09s. They sustain like crap and with my heavy hands, they're easier to bend out of tune when I don't want to bend.

i love 09's ...always have. i love a slinky string. good enough for VAI ,SATRIANI, and EDDIE V....good enough for me. of course in much lower tunings, you need a thicker string. but i play in standard the majority of the time. and i really like being able to bend as high as i please with little or no struggle.........

It took me 5 years before I was ready to move from 9s to 10s.

I believe the main reasons for using 9s have all been mentioned.
