I don't listen to Jimmy Page that much, but his definitely is worthy of being called a guitar hero, hmm, maybe I'll start listening to him more. I've never heard of Carlos Vamos before. Have any links to any youtube vids of him?

Heroes?

Hmmm...

Ritchie Blackmore
Eric Sardinas

I draw influences from elsewhere too but these two are the ones who "taught" me guitar. There are many other heroes out there, they just didn't get the chance to affect me like these two did.

I've seen Eric Sardinas live. I never imagined a resonator guitar could be played like that. He's, dare I say, a shredder on the resonator.....

Man... I must be getting old... I've never played with any of those guys except for Page and Gilmour. Come to think of it, that was in the 70's, so I AM old!

There is only ONE person that would enter the class of "hero" if I idolized any guitar player in the first place. Paul Simon... OK... So I'm basically an acoustic guy, but there's something about the way he puts stuff together that gets me going.

In addition to Page and Gilmour, I've had the opportunity to jam with Townshend, Leon Russell and David Clayton Thomas, along with a few others. These were short jams of no more than 20 minutes and the ONLY reason I got the chance to play with these folks was because my father was a promoter and I was the snot-nosed son. It was all over 30 years ago... Funny, I just had this discussion with a brother-in-law about what we did as "kids." "I USED to be somebody!" Was his statement when we talked about college years. He was a National Champion Wrestler and I got to play with the "stars." Yeah, we USED to be somebody!
