I went to a local shop and saw a 1968 strat for sale. It was only $45 bucks too. The neck is perfectly straight and the frets are really good. The body needs new electronics and a new paintjob with some body work. The pickups need to be replaced also. But for only $45 bucks i'm probably gonna buy it and make it a cool project guitar to work on. I was just wondering if you had any cool ideas to do to it like paint scheme, pickups, and that kind of stuff. I'll probably post pics as i go also!
The guy didnt really know what he had. Usually a vintage neck alone is alot more than 45 bucks. So I am pretty lucky that he thought it was a hunk of wood that didnt work instead of a great deal that can be crafted into a sweet custom vintage axe!

Do you know how to make a really good looking sumburst? My dad could prob help me where he has a bunch of car painting parts. He has a spray gun and all of that. I just have no clue to painting a guitar. And also i might have to get a new jack. I havent been able to test it where the pickups dont work.

wwwwooooooooaaaahhhhhh... hold the damn phone. you do not PAINT a damn 68 strat, nor do you replace anything on it with anything but the original style equipment. i collect guitars, and if you want a good guitar, gimme a call, and well make a deal, you purchase that thig, and if it is what you say it is, i will buy it for you for enough money to buy yourself a nice neww strat. please do NOT paint it or modify it!!!! message me!!!

It's not often you get to see SATAN in PANIC ! lol

SATAN is right though. You don't just start modding a real vintage guitar light-heartedly like it was something you assembled from warmoth parts. If it was any other "generic" guitar I'd say go for it, but '68, man, that needs to be preserved and restored, not redone from base up into something different.
Just think of all the money you can make selling that guitar (now or in the future) if it is restored. If you mod it like you plan, it will just be just another used strat among hundreds of thousands of other used strats.

ok, ibz, you need to shut the hell up!!!!! he needs to sell it to me!!!! (if it is real) if it is really beat uyp it wont be worth much of anything anyways, but i really like guitars with a lot of charecter like that, and i willl pay for it, im not shy with my wallet when it comes to vintage instruments. for that matter, anytime ANYONE on here has anything vintage that they want to get rid of, even if it really isnt worth anything, i am always interested, i just like the old time nostalgic feel they have.

When I said make it better i meant to get it to work .I was thinking about getting real not reissue 68' pickups to put in it. Sorry but I dont want to sell it. I was wanting to make it work and still be vintage. But I need to know where to get Some vintage electronics to put in it and all that.
I'm not the smartest guy on vintage guitars. I thought Where it has paint chipped and showing through that I might need to touch it up. Don't get mad at me plz. I still have to pick it up though. The guy at the shop said some dude paid him 20 bucks for it but hasn't picked it up. He said if he doesn't pick it up then he will sell it to me.
And also SATAN plz don't burn me!

ok, im not exactly sure if you have CHECKED, but an original 68 strat is a multiple thousands of dollers. here is af few basic tips, as i , in fact, DO collect vintage guitars.

first, let me say, if it is actually real, and you get it for 40 bucks or wehatever, you are lucky.
do these steps:

1- immediately get a verification that it in fact IS a real strat. this can usually be done by taking high quality detailed photographs and talking to people AT FENDER.

2- under no circumstances, for ANY REASON do ANY adjustments to ANYTHING on it, the wood that guitar is made of is old, and will crack easily, you want to go to a VERY experienced luthier to do ANY adjustments on it.

3- dont throw away, or damage ANY part of the guitar that is original equipment, this includes using the original pots with new pickups... DONT! get new pots if you are going to do that, soldering new stuff on the original equipment makes it lose value.

4- do not actually disassemble the electronics, get a new pickguard and electronics, and use those. keep the originals completely intact with the pickguard and do not CUT the ground wire to the bridge...take it off properly. store them in a nice dry place away from heat and sunlight (both damage the pickguard quite quickly...)

5- do not refinish the guitar at all! and if you feel you must, which you shouldnt, have fender do it. they will know how to properly do it and it will retain more value. most people that would want to buy a guitar like that would not want it touched up at all as the nicks, dents, worn areas, etc. give it charecter which can really be a plus in many collecters eyes.

6- it is understandable that you want to get it working and play it, and i would definately recommend getting it working again, but it really isnt one of those things you want to play too much, all it takes is one drop. also, i understand you want to keep it, buut as a collecter, it is really hard for me to let go of the fact that in all reality, and not meaning to be insulting to you at all, you may not really appreciate it for what it is.you have the choice of almost any guitar in my collection and cash besides it if it really is a 68 strat. and i really do ohave some guitars you would probably like a lot. so, think it over. and if it is still a no, please treat yours well, a 1968 stratocaster is a really cool thing.

As satan said don't change anything, take it to someone good to work on it. That guitar is worth a lot of money if its a true 68 strat. and who ever sold it to the pawn shop is a fuckin idiot who didn't know what they had. I've seen some vintage stuff at GC in manchester CT with price tags from 5000- 45000, ya dig. don't fuck with the finish man
