I JUST GOT FUCKED BY MUSICIANS' FRIEND AND I WANT EVERY MUSICIAN IN THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT IT.

1. I NEEDED A BOOM STAND, SO I PLACED AN ORDER WITH MF ON SEP 13, 2007. TO GET FREE SHIPPING, I ADDED A FENDER MUSTANG BASS CASE TO THE ORDER.
NOTE: "(Standard Shipping (2-5 business days)"
NOTE: "Stock quantities are updated every 15 minutes"

HERE'S A COPY OF THE ORIGINAL ORDER:

" Items in Your Cart

HERE'S THEIR DISCLAIMER:

" * NOTE: Stock quantities are updated every 15 minutes. There is a slight possibility
that it may be sold out when your order is processed. We will contact you if this happens.
Thank you for your understanding. "

DID YOU NOTICE THIS STATEMENT: "There is a slight possibility
that it may be sold out when your order is processed."?

2. SEVEN DAYS LATER I RECEIVE A BACKORDER NOTICE (THE " . . . slight possibility . . . " HAS NOW BECOME, "As you may recall from the Item Status on our website or from speaking with us when you placed your order, the item(s) listed below are not in stock". THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT FABRICATION.

NOTICE:
" Thanks again for your recent order # I78715640000. The items
which were in stock have been shipped, and we've sent
your package tracking information via a previous email.

As you may recall from the Item Status on our website
or from speaking with us when you placed your order, the
item(s) listed below are not in stock. Our orders for this
gear have been expedited through the manufacturer, and we

top priority with manufacturers.

3. NOT ONLY DOES MF NOW CLAIM TO HAVE TOLD ME THESE ITEMS WERE NOT IN STOCK, THEY RESTATE THAT THEY ARE BACKORDERED.

4. MY RESPONSE:

"I find it hard to believe that your order information is honest.

"The items I ordered were "In Stock" when I ordered them, but out of stock when you attempted to fill my order. Now your web site shows them "In Stock" again, but I haven't received my stuff or any notification of my order being shipped - although three days ago I received an email saying I would get a response in 24 hours.

"I'm not feelin' the love.

"Am I going to order from you again? No. Am I going to tell every musician I know that I got the run-around from Musician's "Friend"? What do you think?"

5. THREE WEEKS AFTER I ORDERED IT, PART OF THE ORDER IS SHIPPED.

6. OCT 5: I RECEIVE A NOTICE FROM MF, SAYING THEY ARE TEMPORARILY OUT OF STOCK, AND OFFERING TO LET ME CANCEL THE REST OF MY ORDER.
I ELECT NOT TO.

8. SO I CALLED THE 800 NUMBER AND, YES, THE SVC REP ACKNOWLEDGED THE BOOM HAD BEEN CANCELLED.

I SAID, "WELL, I DIDN'T CANCEL IT."

SO HE WENT TO CHECK.

THEN HE CAME BACK AND SAID THAT THEY HAD RUN OUT AND WEREN'T GOING TO GET ANY MORE.

SO I SAID, "SO, WHAT DO YOU DO IN THAT CASE?"

THEN HE WENT TO CHECK AGAIN, AND CAME BACK AND SAID HE COULD ISSUE ME A $10 CREDIT ON MY NEXT ORDER.

FUCK THEM. THE REASON I PLACED AN ORDER WAS I NEEDED A BOOM STAND. I'LL NEVER USE THAT $10 CREDIT BECAUSE I'LL NEVER ORDER ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN.

I'VE ORDERED FROM OTHER PLACES AND HAD NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER - BSW, GUITAR CENTER, ELDERLY MUSIC. I WOULDN'T WIPE MY ASS WITH MUSICIANS' FRIEND.

I never order anything through the mail.

If I see it with my eyes an touch it with my hands and like it, I buy it and take it home.

Chill! You're not the first person to get caught up in "catalog ordering" and you won't be the last! Though I'm sure you feel a bit better after the rant.

If you ordered on the net you need to be aware that the website is not directly connected to inventory, so, there is ALWAYS the possibility that what you want is not in stock. I've waited up to a year for a backordered piece of gear, (not from the mf's at MF, but it's the same thing.) If you don't have something, you don't have it, and if you're not getting any more of them, then your only option is to offer a discount or coupon on a future order. MY beef with the mf's at MF is that a number of years ago they screwed up a MAJOR order I made for my new studio. Because of that they offered me 20% off my next purchase. My next purchase would have totaled about $10,000, but SOMEHOW, they lost all track of their 20% off offer they made me and wouldn't honor it. That's when I pretty much finished with the mf's at MF. Not to say that I still don't order some small items from them. At this level of purchase, I changed to American Musical for most of my standard orders. They offer split payments for purchases over $300, (they charge 3 equal payments over 3 months,) and over $1000 they split it into 5 equal payments. Hard to beat. They're not really any better or worse than the mf's at MF, mistakes are still made, but I like their customer service better!

Just let it go, because you can't do anything about it except to not do business with them anymore. People will still order from them and many will never have a problem.

Oh, and just so you know... Most of my ordering problems from internet sites resolved themselves when I stopped ordering through the website and used the phone number instead! There's still a difference when you talk to a REAL person to start with.

X,
Thanks for your reassurance and insight. It was nice to rant, but it was your post that brought me peace. Thanks for taking the time to do that.

Just hate to see people getting upset over crap they really have no control over. (I've been there myself and posted many rants about the mf's at MF long before the new site came on line.) I guess I just saw myself in all you posted and thought you could benefit, or at least find some similarities so you didn't feel all alone, from my experience, which wasn't all that good either.

Shit happens.

I've always been reluctant about online shopping. The only thing I order regularly online is computer parts. It's not like I could test-drive them even if I buy in shop anyway (packaged stuff) so I have them delivered. Granted often things I choose to buy are also popular purchases and run easily out of stock. I haven't noticed "in stock" stuff not being actually in stock or vise versa and when a problem accurs I get a phone call and mail and can settle things.

Paying cash upon delivery really makes these issues easier to resolve.

I've been waiting on my backorderd item from MF for almost two month's. I have also received the option to canx emails from them. I decided to just let it ride. I did send them one nasty email accusing them of forgetting my order. I don't like that they wait so long to give you notices on the status of your order either. It should be weekly.

Anyway, I will continue to purchase stuff online from MF as well as other online music stores. As long as in the long run the store makes it right by either providing a product or giving my $$$ back I can get over this type of thing.

Pretty bold rant there Peck.

One thing I gotta admit that sucks is that instead of saying "unavailable" the online stores here have come up with "available in a couple of weekdays". Which is bull****. It usually takes a week or two in reality, but it is more encouraging for the customer to order when not faced with unavailbility. Not that it is too long to wait, but by the time I make up my mind and place the order, anticipation and excitement have risen and it normally only takes a day or two for delivery, so two weeks spoils the fun.

I have had the same issue with MF, I order something and then 7 days later they say its on back order, so i call to cancel the order and they cancel it but the charge still showed up on my credit card, i got the money back and the intrest but it took 3 months to do so, i will never order from em again. as with Xark I use american musical, if they don't have it it will say so on the site and you can live chat with someone to make sure its in stock before you order it, plus the easy pay thing is great.

On a side note I went to GC the other day to look at a recording unit and they didn't have only 3 in stock(total units) and none of which i was interested in. The guy wrking in pro audio said he could order it for me, but it would take 3 weeks to get it. Are you F-ing kidding me? I went on american musical and they had it in stock, and i'll have it in 3 days. What the hell is going on with these companies these days?
