Ok Im a fan of blues guitar and Ive gotten pretty good at playing all over the fretboard.
I plan on working hard everyday up until the summer before I start jamming with my band in progress.
Im working on blues scales and I want to know what are good guitars for blues music?
(Getting Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Pedal for christmas)
Should I go with Gibson SG Standard or a Fender Strat?
And good amps I might wanna take a look at?
Currently have a 26 walt Peavey Amp

well I have gone an American Standard Strat through a 75 Fender Twin Reverb. pretty much a blues staple. Really though you can play the blues on anything.

well, i mean, really any guitar CAN play the blues... but an SG does not come to mind as the best. i am a strat fan for blues, but les pauls have some great blues tone with the pickup selecter in the middle position, then of course there is the es-335 style hollowbodies........ you have many choices... go out and try a bunch of them, and pick the one you like. hell, if a randy rhodes king V has the blues tone you want... buy it and play blues with it!

exactly. why don't people get it that you can really play any music on any guitar if that is how you want it to sound. be different, be you.

Actually some bluesmen DID use flying V's. I've heard amazing blues sound coming from a Jackson superstrat. The possibilities are endless.
Anywhere from clean to dirty it is still blues. From fat creamy sound to really thin sound, it is still blues. If you play it right, it will be blues no matter what you play it on. So the question really is what do YOU want YOUR blues sound to be like?

Continuing what ibz said:

If you want to sound like, say:

Clapton - Strat for his later work, LP for his earlier work
BB King - Hollow-bodied e35 (I think)
Zappa- LP (most probably)
Jeff Beck - Any guitar with a whammy bar :)

But, really, your guitar itself is completely irrelevant compared to how you play it

I own 4 electrics and 2 acoustics. All of them are very different sounding guitars and I play the blues on every one of them. The blues are inside you and you let them flow out. What instrument they flow out to is irrelevent. It's all in how you let them flow.

But I stand by what I said earlier, it never hurts to have a harmonica around. The blues love to flow over those.

exactly, blues is like... say.... diahrhea. it is inside of you, and once in a while, when you least expect it, you must run out of the room and play the blues. it gushes from you like.....like....well....... WATTERY POOP! and at that point does it really matter what guitar you are using? as long as you get to A guitar on time, you can be happy!

lol SATAN

that's the best comparison ever...very unique.

like everyone else said though... the guitar and amp you used means very little unless you have a specific tone you are chasing but even then, it doesn't mean you'll get the tone you want by using the same gear as the guy you want your tone to sound like. EVERYTHING affects your tone from the flesh on your fingers to the strings, picks, guitar, amp, cables, the room you're in, the building that room is a part of, what street your on, what city, state/province, country, current weather conditions on Mars.... (have I made my point)

get a rig that you like the sound of, and I guarantee you will be able to play blues on it as long as you know a few basics and play from the soul (or if your SATAN, from the souls you've tricked people out of)

Carvin Legacy. It's cheap, has an *incredible* clean channel, and the lead channel is thicker than just about anything. Steve Vai helped design it to match his shreddy style, but strats seem to really love it. It's also very pedal-friendly, and mine really sounded great with both my DS-1 and Tubescreamer.
