heya. i was wondering how to get the massive wah sound used by kirk hammet and the bloke from godsmack. is it a certain pedal or a modification or something cos i cant get the sound. im also having trouble finding the right distortion for.i like teh smooth overdrive sound but i liek the power of distortion. i recently played a vox valvetronics and managed to get a smooth distortion sound which was perfect. is there any pedals or such to get a distortion sound liek this?
cheers

Lots of gain, and wah. Pick attack like crazy, and you should be there...

first, get 3 frog legs, 2 eyes of newt, and the hair of a british virgin living in belgium. mix with distilled water, and pour the mixture over your wah pedal...... or listen to what zombre said.....

I think if you put the wah after distortion, it will be much more noticable.

After visiting guitargeek.com, it appears the guy from godsmack doesn't use a wah, however a rotovibe pedal is listed. I don't know how those sound. What was *conspicuously* absent were any references to metallica. That kinda does make sense. Maybe lars threatened to sue the guitargeek folks, so they took the metallica listings off the website.

I have a guitar world magazine where he says he *always* uses a wah, and in fact he calls it his "freedom pedal" because of the range of sounds it allows him to achieve.

I'll try to find the exact article if I can.

Personally, the last time I listened to Metallica, I think Kirk Hammett was going too wah-wah happy. Way too overboard for my tastes.

I have a Snarling Dog's Whine O Wah+ and it seriously has more balls than those guys. I have an old hand wired model from before charlie stringer died... I know they came back after that and weren't hand made any more, but I dunno if they are still around - check them out if you can.

haha yeh thats a good point. if you get laid your no longer a virgin. how silly of me.
rotovibe sounds like a vibrato pedal from the name but ill check it out.
kirk hammet does use wah loads but its just teh sound i want. not to use it as much as him.
is snarling dog the company that makes them?

last time I'd heard Kirk Hammet mention what he was using for his wah (Black Album era) it was a vintage Vox wah. Don't know if he modified it....I doubt it otherwise it would ruin the vintage sound of it.
