Well, I was planning on getting a new guitar. I was wanting something like a Jackson Randy Rhoads V, but I was wondering if I should get it with the Floyd Rose or not. Some people absolutely hate Floyd Rose's, but I find them to be very cool. What do you guys think? Should I spend the extra money on one with a Floyd Rose?

I like floyds for the tuning stability, once set up properly they are great. But for newer players who haven't learned about setting one up, it can be a bit daunting the first time they change strings and it needs to be reset. I don't know how many posts on the old G.com I've seen about how to set up a floyd.

are you kidding?! Floyd roses never stay in tune for more than a minute!! don't tell me that i don't know how to set one up, because it's simple, after restringing, get it in tune with the machines on the head, and then tighten the nuts, and re-tune with the pegs on the floyd rose. it's easy to set up, but once it's in tune, if you even touch the tremolo arm, it goes so far out of whack i can't stand it. I guess they do stay in tune unless you like to use the tremolo arm, otherwise, don't get one.

well you sholdn't just slap a new set of strings on tune and lock it up, strings need to stretch and get seated a bit before you lock it down. I've never had one go out of tune once tuned and locked even if i dive bomb the shit out of it.

I don't agree that they dont stay in tune, they do, but they are a waste of time, i have a 70s marlin sidewinder strat with a floyd rose, its to big so it gets in the way, it takes away valuble playing time with the nuts and fine tuning, and besides, tremelo is so corny and only fits in on that very rare occasion, it just aint worth it,

Floyds are frustrating to the new-comer. They hold well in tune, unless they're cheap knock-offs (you get what you pay for), poorly set up (steep learning curve, but you eventually get it right) or the strings are old (most common problem once you are past the other two obstacles).

The only important question is whether a floyd belongs into your style of playing.

Floyds do stay in tune but you have to take some time to tune and re-tune since changing the tuning of one string affects all the others as well. Personally I don't like Floyds. I don't see the point in the ability to raise the pitch of multiple strings. I'll just stick to bending. It might take a while for a Floyd Rose equipped guitar to start staying in tune, especially if you put new strings in it, but when it does it holds it pretty well.

Alright, I'll admit what I said originally was stupid, and wrong. I take back what I said. What I meant to say was that they are not for me. I guess I'm just too impatient to tune them. I prefer other types of tremolo arms, but if you like Floyd Rose, go with it! Sorry for my previous outburst, and just keep on rocking!

I think I'm just going to stick with a normal bridge, but I think I might get a Floyd Rose one day.

in my opinion, guitars that go out of tune quicker sound cooler, mustangs for example

i agree, floyds are awesome, in my experience at least, my floyd stays in tune until i break a string. if you want to experiment heavily with a whammy floyd rose is the only way to go, if thats not really your thing, i wouldnt worry about it unless you'd like to save yourself some time with the tuning

The only reason I use a Floyd is because they work great for divebombs and fun noises like that. Otherwise, I don't touch it.

I have a "68" Telecaster with a bigsby tremelo. I have always loved the guitar, but hated the tremelo. A couple of years ago I bought an Ibanez RG 470 DX with an Ibanez Floyd rose clone. I love to play that guitar. It took a couple of string changes to learn the best approach, but after stretching the strings, which you have to do anytime you change strings on a guitar, it will stay in tune no matter how I abuse it with the locking tremelo.
