I would love to be able to afford a Gibson Les Paul Custom but they are way over priced in England, even the 2nd hand ones. what sort of prices do you pay in the states from say a local retailer or private seller and not a corporate robber.

Buddy, the GBP is so much stronger than the dollar right now, you could probably you could probably fly over here, buy one at Guitar Center, and still spend less. I think I paid the equivalent of $15 American dollars for fish and chips last time I was out in Kings Cross.

You get shafted in the city for anything, London is a rip-off, Fish and Chips is $6 where I live.

I've also been to the street where they have all the guitar shops lined up in London. That was really cool. There's not too much of that in the states. Your corporate retailers, Guitar Center and Sam Ash usually give the best prices on high priced gear. Others might disagree.

You are talking about Denmark Street. They are very expensive, possibly due to the fact it's the Capitol.

I think you're looking at $4000 here (Australia) for a Standard. nearly $10000 for a 59 Reissue. $8000 for a Zakk Wylde camo SG's are about $3500
way over priced considering our dollar is so strong against the USD

I Think thats why they have brought out the faded range because how can they maintain the prices, it must mean that epiphone and all the other companys they now own must be keeping them in business.

Epiphone Pauls here range from $700 upwards I think the new Slash Paul is $1800. A bit high for a low range guitar imho

You can always get one online, but you won't be able to try it out. I also don't know what the tax situation would be.

Import Duty would be slapped on it, Our Govt in the UK are gready because they want to compete with super powers like the USA and China, our tax is a joke, the Beatles wrote about it in the 60's, and it's even worse now, the non carismatic Gordon Brown and the Joker Alistair Darling, what a complete pair of pricks. they get $50000 just to furnish their homes, stealth tax is the name of the game where their concearned, I can imagine Browne saying Hello Darling, Yes Darling and No Darling. Soon he will be saying we lost the election Darling.

I think jobabrinks is right. It would probably be cheaper to buy the guitar over here and fly it back to England with you. You could probably get the guitar for $1,500 less. You could probably get a good deal on plane tickets through expedia, fly over to the closest/cheapest destination, shop for two days till you find what you want, and fly back.

Yeah I got a ticket last month to fly roundtrip to Denmark next month for less than 900 USD. So other than spending over 8 hours each way crammed into a flying bus it's not too bad just don't bring much luggage with you because customs getting into this coountry is a real bitch.
