For Christmas, i recently acquired a marshall 1960b cabinet, which goes nicely with my 1960a cabinet, and marshall tsl100 head. I always liked the peavey JSX amplifier head. I currently have some extra money, and saw the JSX amp on sale at guitar center for $1099.99 I know nobody can make this decision for me, but would anyway care to say what they would do in my shoes. Buy the JSX and play 2 1/2's and/or make both a full stack whenever i feel liek it, or should i just stick with my marshall? I play a little of everything, but recently been playing hendrix and floyd alot. I have been known to play System of a down, metallica, and shadows fall in a bunch of jams i have with a good friend of mine who is a drummer. My main guitar is a strat, but i have an ibanez SZ and a epiphone LP. I am possible purchasing a ibanez RGA121 soon. Thought/comments are appreciated.

I would suggest saving up for more 4x12's. Never know when you'll need that extra "push over the cliff".

Personally I would save your money and buy other stuff you may need - I own the same amp and find it to be pretty versatile. You could [if you also sing] upgrade your PA, buy some nice mics for your home studio and or live situations, or even start a recording rig if you havent already.

One thing I do with extra cash is mod stuff... if you're handy it can be fun.

If the tonal variations are wide enough, a multiple amp setup is always cool. Get a splitter and a a/b/y switch and switch between the amps as needed. Joe Bonamassa has a great multi-amp setup wuth usually 2 Marshall Jubilee's, a Two-Rock and lately a Dumble or a Fuchs. He switches amps like guys use pedals. Great tones though.

Also, I don't know where you're playing at that acommodates that size rig. That's gotta be loud and hell to mix out front.
I play anywhere from 500 to 5,000 seat venues. Sometimes some huge outdoor festivals and concerts...50,000 being the largest. I've never had more than a 50watt amp onstage. My current Fuchs rig consists of a 50w ODS head and a 2x12 cab. The Master's on 3 and is more than loud enough.

gear is overated. tone is in the fingers. as for volume, any decent venue will mic up you cab(s) and can give just about any amp a pretty mostrous sound. i've known ppl who simply plug a POD into the main board for all their sounds. no cabs even needed. but it is nice to have that sound behind you. bottom line is that the more cabs you bring, the harder it will be for the soundman to put you in the mix. less is more. unless you are playing huge rooms, all those cabs will usually be overkill for most clubs. and you really do want to be in the mix if ya can. obviously it all depends on the room you are playing and the type of gig it is. if it's a heavy metal gig to a decent sized room, then maybe bring both cabs, but 90% of the time you'll only need or want to have one cab. if i were you, i would look into some nice pedals and a good pedalboard. for a thousand bucks you can put together a really nice effect system or sure..........

yah, after trying it more thoroughly, i have decided to stick with my trusty marshall tsl. I had a nice jam with my drummer (who has a rediculously loud drum set) and my marshall kept up. he said it was the first time he could hear a guitarist he was jamming with. I realized at that moment that i had more than enough power in my possession already, and more than enough tonal versatility.
