hahaha definitely. I am looking to get a Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Stratocaster HSS Electric Guitar at musiciansfriend.com or my local music store if they have it, but I am not sure when to get it. I have been ripping through the scales and chords for a month, and I'm wondering when I should get the electric. I like the electric because it will help me be familiar with both types of guitars, and I might learn a bit more about guitars if I have both. I wouldn't be switching, per say, just adding on to my collection so that I have both. Tell me what you think!

I'd go with the mex strat if you can afford a little more. I really can't tell that much difference between those and the American counterpart. It's really a nice guitar for the money.

Well, if I can afford it now should I wait a month, then see where my current guitar takes me and either buy it or wait longer? I will probably end up playing it a few times before I get it. I think I will skip the MIM model because this one comes with 2 Strat Stack pickups and an HG-112 B/50 Duncan PUP, and then eventually upgrade the tuners and bridge. What do you guys think?

I hear the workmanship on Squires aren't that great, but if it makes you happy that's the only thing that matters. The MIM strats a superior to Squires from the workmanship to the materials in my opinion and I'm worried that you may want to get something better after only a couple of months, but again the choice is yours. I've heard a lot about the Squire, very little of it was good, but I'm sure somebody will argue in favor of it. It's really up to you.

well, I really won't have the money for the MIM strat, so anything up to... $350 is probably in my price range. I'm really just looking for an intermediate electric so I can keep it for a long time, so really whatever will suit me best in this situation is great. I'm really asking for what guitar you would recommend from experience.

Have you checked into Ibanez? They're supposed to be pretty good. I found an Ibanez GRG170DX for $249.95 which seems to fit your price range. I don't really have any experience with anything under $400 in today's money. I started out with a "Goya" acoustic guitar that cost about $80 in 1977. I bought a Yamaha acoustic about a year later because the Goya sucked. It just wouldn't stay in tune. It's been my experience that you can get a good guitar for fairly cheap, but You may have to put a little more money in than you anticipate. In the end it's worth it though.

hey, thanks for the advice man! I am also talking with my uncle about it, he has been playing for like 20 years! The thing with Ibanez is it is metal it seems like to me, and I'm not into metal really. Thanks again!

There are a lot of guitars to choose from and like said before many times play, play play and you will find one that meets your needs and in my opinion don't put a time limit on when to get the electric, get it when you want it. Yes the electric will allow you to do stuff that you aren't doing on the acoustic the two are the same but very different. you should have fun when both but remember once you get the electric, there will be an amp and soon pedals to consider.

If at all possible, buy from a real store, so that you get the exact guitar you want. Two guitars that are supposed to be the same are often quite different, which makes online shopping a bit of a lucky dip.

have you guys heard of rondomusic.com Agile guitars? They sell some great equipment for 90 dollars, though the pickup might not be the best. I think I'm going to play a Les Paul and an American Strat, and finally a few of the Agile guitars if at all possible. I really like this one specifically: http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000blueflame.html and my uncle has told me that he has heard a lot of good stuff about that company. With a $200 guitar, I will have $150 left to spend on an amp, pedals, or whatever else I like. Thanks, and tell me what you think about the Agile guitars. Thanks again!

The only thing I can tell you to do here is play one. I agree with Kenski, don't buy any guitar you can't actually test out. If the Agile feels nice, stays in tune, sounds to your standards, then by all means buy one. Buying a guitar is a very individual thing.

The reviews in Harmony Central seem OK for the Agile but in the $200 range you are probably better off playing one before buying because at this price point you could get a fairly nice guitar or a piece of crap. But I have no comment on the Agile because I have never played one, so good luck and don't be in any hurry, you never know whats just around the corner waiting on you.
