i'm trying to get some sort of rack effects unit and floor controller and i want to make the most educated decision before i spend the money. i'd like to spend less than 7 or $800 on the whole set up and i'm looking at the TC G Major, but on zzounds and musicianfriend there's a lot of mixed reviews on it. i'd like something that can switch amp channels on top of having a lot of great sounding customizable effects. the g major basically seems like its exactly what i'm looking for at a reasonable price, but the reviews make me nervous. anyone out there own one? if so what has been your experience? anyone have any other recommendations for a better product?

The G Major looks like a winner to me. I currently use a Rocktron Xpression, but I would like to do some A/B comparisons once I get some other gear.

You also have to remember that those reviews are often written by 12-year olds whose parents bought them these toys, and they have no clue how to properly use it or hook it up.

haha, yeah man, i try not to put too much weight in the reveiws, but i can't help but be a little concerned when i see a bunch of negatives. i know TC makes good stuff, so i was especially surprised by the reviews.

i think i'll end up getting the g major, now i just need to find a good floor controller that will talk to the g major...any ideas?

I have the G-Force but I have a friend who has the G Major. It seems to be a really good unit plus, like you said it changes amp channels. He uses the Behringer midi foot controller to control everything. It seems to work fine but he hasn't programmed the expressions pedals yet so I can't speak as to how well those work with the G Major. I would recommend the G Major though.

I like the Rocktron All Access or Midi Mate, or (the one I use) the GCX Ground Control Pro.

I use a TC Electronics G-major, i mainly use it for reverbs and delays and it rocks. I control it from either a rolls midi buddy or a Art X-15. Worth picking one up, even if you only use it for reverb. I must warn you though the dials can be a bit finnicky when trying to program.

great feedback, thank you! i went ahead and ordered the g major from zzounds, now i just need to decide what floor controller. i was looking at the rocktron all access, but its a bit too pricey for me, so i'm thinking of going with the GCX ground control pro, i think it was a bit cheaper than the all access. thanks again!

The Rocktron Midimate will offer a better bang for the buck. I have both the GCX and a midimate. The new GCX's are pretty big...comparable to the All Access. The old GCX's are the same size as the Midimate and fit nicely on a pedal board. The Midimate holds up well...never had a problem, easy to program and comes in at around $200...half the price of a GCX

I know eds1275 hails the g-major but there is a design fault with the power inlet its an iec connector and there are no fixings on the chassis, it bolts to the bottom of the psu circuit and what happens as you remove the power cable a loose or dry joint develops because the iec is surface mounted,
how do I know, because I used to own one and every few months bingo, the same problem, according to the company who are commissioned to repair them in the uk its a common fault. so I sold it on evilbay.

way to single me out!!!

i bought mine the day they first came out, sold it a few years later and then was in edmonton and bought one used... which happened to be the one I had sold, it still had my old patches on it [not everyone has patches named "pities da foo" or "sterling is a retard" after a bass player]. It's been what? 7 or 8 years since they came out, mine works no problem. Most likely because it's always been in a rack.

You hit the nail on the head. I am a cheapskate I just had mine sitting on the amp, if you keep the power cord connected I suppose there isn't an issue.
