Two Things:

1) On the "My Home" screen, the orange bar with a link that pops down saying "Start recommending music and gear now for a chance to earn commission" doesn't work. When I click that link, I get "the page cannot be displayed."

2) However, if I click the "Add Content" link on My Home screen, I can get to the page with all the tabs to recommend music and such. When I type in something in the search box under the "My Gear" tab, it gives no search results, but takes me to the "My Info" tab.

The "My Gear" apparently searches Musician's Friend only. If they don't have it, you can't list it. It's part of the "making money" portion of the site. I have a problem with that in that there is VERY little that Musician's Friend has to offer that I would recommend. It just keeps my "Recommended Gear" tab blank so I look like I don't care or don't know. I'd rather see the ability to input ANY gear and not just the low end crap. (Let it still search Musician's Friend if it must, but return a "Buy It Somewhere Else, You'd Be Smarter," tag when they don't have it.) (Kind of sound's like I'm not fond of Musician's Friend, doesn't it?) I don't care whether I make any money from it or not. The point of this site has always been SHARING our knowledge as well as our likes and dislikes with no thought of "making money" from that sharing. This is going to be an ongoing beef of mine.

My beef with the gear recommendation is that you can't recommend anything that is out of production... Whatever happened to buying used stuff and left-overs?

Hi Tybalt. The link in the orange bar has been fixed, sorry about that.

Gear search - can you tell me what you were searching for? At present it works fine for us.

Het, ibzRG - We're thinking about this and how to tackle it. It might perhaps be dealt with nicely if we form a relationship with Gbase.com. Thanks for your input.

The orange bar is indeed now working. Thanks for that.

I tried the gear recommendation tab again, and it's still doing the same thing for me as it did yesterday. I first tried a specific model guitar "JS100", and it returned no results and went to the My Info tab. I then just tried "Ibanez", and got the same result. Just for the sake of being complete, I typed in "Fender", and got the same result.

If it matters, other tabs, such as music, info, etc., seem to be working fine for me.

Thanks,
Tybalt

Here's a follow up to the Gear Recommendation Feature problems I'm experiencing.

1) I have discovered that if I type in my recommendation in the search box, and press either the Enter key or Return key, that is what makes it go back to the "My Info" tab without any search results. Actually clicking the "Search" button on the screen yields different results. (see #2 and #3)

2) If I type in something open ended, like "Ibanez", and click the "Search" button on the screen, it seems to hang in search mode. I let it go for a good 5 minutes once.

3) I then tried going to Musician's Friend to see exactly how they listed the product I would recommend. I then typed that into the search box here at Guitar.com. I then clicked the "Search" button and got "No search result found".

Thanks,
Tybalt

What product would that be?

One word is not good enough for a search. Too many words make it too easy to miss something. I think 2-4 words should usually work.

Hmmn. I was trying "Electro-Harmonix" with Holy Grail, and Deluxe Memory Man and couldn't get any results for my search. Also, as Xark says, it seems to only search Musician's friend...

Mac OSX, Safari...

I've tried "Ibanez", "Ibanez JS100", "Ibanez JS100 Joe Satriani Model Electric Guitar" and none of them seem to work.

I have discovered something a little odd, though. When using XP and IE7, pressing the "Return" or "Enter" key instead of clicking the "Search" button takes me to the My Info tab. Using Firefox and Vista, that problem disappears. It also does not matter inside of OSX and Safari. I still don't get any search results with those last two configurations, but at least it looks like it's moving in the right direction.

Hey, I can recommend gear now. Thanks.

BTW, the Return Key thing is still an issue. But it definitely works when I click the Submit button.

yes, our connection to musiciansfriend.com was having issues, something with the api. The enter key thing we'll have fixed asap, it's super-annoying. Also the gear search in general is dead slow, should take half the time it does to return results.

Thanks again for your input.

OK, new issue. Here's how I make this error happen...

First: click on "Members" at the top of any Guitar.com page. Then find Tybalt, and click on that. You see gear recommendations at the top center. Click on the guitar recommended. The page heading is now Tybalt>Gear Recommendation and displays the guitar. All is well. Now under "Other Gear Recommended by Tybalt" click the "Line 6 PODXT Live". It will take you to the Line 6 PODXT Live review page, but the heading is Community Gear Recommendations>Detail, and the review is from ibzRG. (nice choice, btw, ibzRG!).

Hate to harp on this feature...

I have tried multiple times to enter something I KNOW they have at Musician's Friend. I've tried every description possible and even cut and paste Musician's Friend's description directly from their site. It still comes up with no matches. Maybe IE6 again? I know if I don't click the search button and hit enter, as is my habit, it returns me to my main profile tab and I have to click back and re-enter everything only to have it find nothing.
