Do you think Eric's problem is his AGE ?

For a great Crossroads moment ... check-out Jeff Beck's stuff from this past summer here in Chicago. It features a 22 yr old Australian (female) bassist that absolutely inspires !!!

Also, .. my daughter informed me that Mr. Mayer is now bedding-down with Jeniffer Aniston. Let's see Eric try bending THAT string !!

Well Clapton if you know anything about him always has been 100% about the music, he doesn't care if he is the front man or just a part of the band so Mayer playing better is irrelevant (though i've said it once and i'll say it again Mayer is the Clapton my generation) I didnt notice this the first time, but there is some awesome traveling riverside blues in there too, some Zeppelin, I don't really know the origin of those lyrics so maybe it is originally Clapton but I would think it is probably from an earlier blues tune that I am unaware of, if someone knows it please educate me ; )

I always love it when you find someone near the path, and then get to put them well on it. Alex, you've just crossed over into the voodoo side of guitar music. The bluse...or blues if you prefer. Robert Johnson indeed penned this tune, along with 30 others, and died ironically at a crossroads at age 27. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Johnson_%28musician%29 ) .

Claptons live version of crossroads (with cream) is the difinitive version today. Robert Johnsons original recording is , painful, by comparison to listen to.

As far as Age, yes, I think Claptons age/life has taken a toll on him, and yes I do know a good bit about Eric Clapton, and if you don't have his crossroads collection yet, you should buy it! Great stuff!

As for the performance, mayer is playing near verbatum from the classic creame recorded version, a solo I know well (was my audition into GIT in 1992) and one Clapton, obviously, has long since moved on from.

I too really like John Mayers playing....nice guy as well! BTW, I can't stand Jeff Beck...yeah I know he's influeced the droves.

Today's humor :

"... if you know anything about him always has been 100% about the music"

Excuse me, but that's total crap. For most of his life .. it was about 'Eric". Read-up on the heroin years. Listen to his interviews; -- not a lot of humility there.

He has written some awesome pieces .. and contributed to music, no doubt. But sayin' it all been 'about the music' - would be similar to the UK lads who used to say the he was god.

Let's be a bit realistic here ?
