March 25 my band is playing in front of my highschool for battle of the bands. it is not a huge deal, but i am pretty excited, and there is a pretty good chance we will win i think. and if we win, we get a 100 bucks (not a huge deal) and some publicity (much huger deal ) and with the publicity im hoping we can land some decent local gigs. anyway, so this probably doesnt seem like a lot to those of you who have performed a lot, but i am pretty excited, and any advice would be welcome!!

Oh, and im playing rhythm guitar and singing, which should be fun i think

Hey this IS a big deal! And you have every right to be excited about it. Hope you have a great time and the best of luck to you. :)

Edit: Only advice I have is to stay loose and have fun. Also if you get the chance to practice in the venue that you will be performing in make sure you do so.

I hope we win too :) if things go well, there are some other bigger competitions in the area around this area that we might give a shot.

hm, like alternative classic rock maybe? If you know the raconteurs, we are influenced by them a lot.

Yea good luck again!!!! ....sorry I guess the Tull video someone made didn't go over well, ...But that's OK, ...I don't like mean any hidden implications, like a train wreck, or some such similar thing???? .....I just like that song by Jethro Tull!!!! .....It rocks!!!! ...and I thought it appropriate, ...as it rocks????

But what the hell, ...I never seem to know what the right things to post are sometimes????

But Good Luck anyway!!!!! ....Here's some Rob Zombie for Luck!!!!

But if I picked the wrong video again or not, ....Good Luck Anyway!!!!

White Stripes and Raconteurs are good. Zeppelin works well with a lot of people. Know thy audience.

ya man break a leg!!!! Playin live is what its all about!!! Remember your your own worst critic. Mistakes happen, just keep playing, specially on stage. Don't think about the audience just jam. You show the audience your hain fun with it and they will follow.....if its not fun its no good

The first time is always a big deal and so is the next time. Take it seriously but have fun with it and remember you guys are the ones with balls enough to be up there.

Hey, this is a pretty big deal. I can remember my first shows with various bands and stuff, and each one of them mean a lot to me. Don't get too nervous. Just go out there and be yourself. Get energetic and have a good time. Don't worry about whether you'll miss a note here or there, just keep note of it in your head and continue having a good time. Then take that list of notes in your head and attack them in practice until each time you play that it's perfectly played every time.

Its getting nearer to 'the big show' now. I'm curious as to how practise is going, and are you confident or nervous??

I would recommend video taping a "dress rehearsal" in a garage or something. This way you can play it back and critique yourselves. You might be doing something that "feels" cool but looks ridiculous.
