So I bought the latest Guitar World with Yngwie Malmsteen on the cover. There's an article listing what's supposed to be the 50 fastest shredders. They had listed Johnny Winters and Joe Satriani. Now, don't get me wrong, both are really good players, especially Satch, but neither would pop in my head as a "fastest shredder". And you know who merely got honorable mention? Tony MacAlpine and Rusty Cooley! That ain't even right. I think Guitar World has slipped. Opinions?

I don't know, have you heard Satch's latest album? He does some pretty mean shredding on there. Johnny Winter I don't agree with. But Satch is a hellascious shred master.

Yeah, I would definitely put Satch in the shred category. Guitar World might have the same people who voted Jethro Tull as best heavy metal album at the grammys, (they beat out Metallica and Megadeth) tell me that ain't weird!

I would agree. Maybe they were talking about that particular genre. I don't know. I have been working on my chops, and sweeps, driving ma' lady insane. It's fun, but I crank it up to try and get the distorted sound only for fun. I am trying to get the chops in with the jazz I have been working on thanks to all the guys on the G.com yo! I am still diggin' on the forum, and that says something. My attention span is measured in nano-seconds. (Cue in bird) tweet, tweet.

i have this issue too, and just to clear things up,
it's not the 50 fastest shredders of all time, but the 50 fastest guitarists of all time.

Yeah, but isn't the term "shred" synonymous with speed?

well i dont know about other people but to me, shred makes me think of metal/rock or w/e.
they probably didnt use the term shred due to the fact of players like albert lee, johny winters, shawn lane, alvin lee, and danny gatton eing on the list.

Not a big John 5 fan. There are some that I see in the make up, and everything that seem like it fits them, but for some reason, it seems like he's faking it. My wife loves anything "Goth," and after a while of seeing that and Maynard Keenan do his thing on stage and Kiss, etc. You usually know who are the fakers and who are from the "Desert of the Real". Maybe I am being a Gothzi, but I have never thought very highly of this particular guy.

I hear you. I always thought the whole Marilyn Manson thing was contrived. John5 included. You don't have to go over-the-top to be goth. I've seen other goths, and they look natural in their presentation.

Exactly. I am in no way goth. If I dressed the part I would look like a damn fool. I wear alot of black TOOL shirts, but that's not Goth. But I wouldn't try and pretend, like John 5.
