The same place they got the crap that is everything else. It's called creativity and if there's someone who likes it then it becomes a viable genre. I suppose I could ask the same question about country, (especially since country music is now what we used to call "pop.")

Just because YOU don't like a genre, doesn't mean it's crap. Unless, of course, you're upset that YOU'RE not the one making money from it! In that light it's ALL crap!

:p

Narcissistic teens with too much time on their hands because their parents have worked hard and provided a good life for them. They don't have to do anything but complain about how hard life is for them because somebody doesn't like them. The popularity of youtube, facebook and myspace are just venues for them to vent and .....whine.

I've never heard of "emo." I've heard of Emo Phillips. I've never heard "emo" music though. I'm old.

It's cool. Xark is usually a quite measured with his posts. That response might seem he's a bit testy today. His wife might be on a long trip and he's missing playtime!

Sorry, but I've got this EMO brother right now who's driving me nuts. Yeah... creative as hell, but whines that no one likes him. He has no job and hasn't for years. He says he gets too sick to work. (I've come into work half-dead so I could use my sick day for play later!) Narcissistic is an understatement. For someone who's almost 44, you'd think they'd have figured out the simple things in life. Last night he made me actually feel bad that I'm supporting him, feeding him, putting a roof over his head and providing a work environment, (the studio,) where no one is hanging over his head or telling him how to do things. It gets old really quick. With rising prices, it's getting difficult to make ends meet having to support someone who's not contributing financially to their living environment. (Yes, he gets 50% of what the studio makes, but all I've seen in return are a couple cases of Coke and a pound of buffalo, both of which he uses. (The buffalo was on clearance for $1.99 a pound instead of the $6 a pound I pay for it.

Didn't mean to lash out at you because we all have a genre to point to and say, "That sucks!" Guess that was my point. From our point of view some things just suck, but from the record companies point of view, if it sells, then it's good!

Now if I could only get rid of the EMO part of my life here...

Once again, I apologize if I seemed short or critical. Didn't mean to.

I have the answer to why there are emo kids. At least, this is the way I interpret it. First of all, the definition of emo music - the way I understand it, they are "emotional punks". Or at least emotional. For the most part, there are no politics in emo music.

Now, the second part is upbringing. There is a lot to be said about influences at an early age. I am 26 years old. Growing up, I knew the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. Those roles have dissappeared in a sense due to overly-protective people who decided to censor everything.

There has ALWAYS been some people who are more sensitive than others, who look too deep or too hard into things that sometimes don't even concern them, and get all worked up and upset about it. But now everything is censored, so when stuff happens, that's always happened [i.e. bad things] it just looks a whole lot worse.I was watching GI Joe last night [the old cartoon] and Cobra Commander sreamed "Kill them! Scatter their bones at my feet!" and he was mad, and he was serious. And it was intense. I watched this when I was a kid, and have never killed anyone and scattered their bones anywhere. But the thought that bad things can, will and do happen was implanted in my brain and I understood that. There was always good guys as well, people to look up to like He-man, Duke, etc. etc. And for the girls, there was Jem, She-ra, Care bears... and of course the whole list of baddies Skeletor, Cobra Commander, Destro, Gargamel and Azriel, the band that always tried to ruin Jem's gigs.

And we were taught that sometimes, some people are just A-holes [Foghorn Leghorn comes immediately to mind].

Compare that kind of mental conditioning with the Teletubbies. The eat their "Tubby Custard" watch some dude milk a cow, scream "again!!!" watch it again, walk around their hobbit-hole, scream "again!", and you'veseen some old dude milk a cow 3 times in 22 minutes.

It's frustrating that kids used to play cops and robbers, and now they've been toned down to playing BATTLE DRADLES [beyblade]. Look at todays bad guys. They don't teach you anything. And their squeeky voices makes them less of an authoritive figure.

~Besides being pretty hot, she really does a good job of making fun of them [emo kids].

As for the music, well.... it's so bad, it makes me want to sit in a dark corner and cry. It sucks. And it is crap.

LOL!!! That's why I never let my kids watch PBS cartoons. A diet of PBS cartoons will turn any kid to become a creampuff as an adult! My kids grew up watching The Three Stooges!
