Anyone want to re-record this as a guitar duet with me?
I don't want to change anything, I just want someone else to play the trailing guitar.

Jeff,

I wish I could say count me in, but I would be worried that I couldn't live up to your standard of playing dude.

Haha, its always the little nagging doubt at the back of my mind that I could really screw up and disappoint. I think I just worry that I cant live up to what others can do and your recordings are usually great technically so it sort of needs someone who can pull out all the stops to add something that will work with what you do.

Ok, sod it, I'm in.

Let me know what you need me to do, give me a BPM and I'll give it my best shot.

If it works out I'll hit up Zombre next for a duet....hahaha

If truth be known I avoided you guys despite wanting to do a few tracks with you both, purely because it scared the shit out of me!!!! I better get some practice in huh!!

Cool man. I'll post a vid tomorrow after I get off work showing what I'm playing so you can get the riff's. Then I'll post the backing track along with the guitar 1 track. Both guitars play "almost" exactly the same thing. I just designed it so that they overlap just a bit.

What I'm hoping for is the differences in your tone and playing style to really put some contrast over the almost identical guitar parts.

Sounds terrifying but I'm looking forward to it.

As always Jeff just let me know the tempo etc, as my software doesn't like me very much and develops some weird speed up/slow down issue when I convert a file and arm it in Ableton. I think I found a solution to it but better to be sure I reckon.

I'll pop over to iComp and grab your version, it'll give me an idea and I can jam with it for a reference.

This will be a good opportunity to work out those bugs then.
I'm sure we'll get all the technical difficulties figured out.

I'm re-excited about this track again now.

Jeff is that first tap right?

so on the 16th fret tap with no other notes, and then I go and then skip to the high E string playing 12 13 frets?

plus my tapping sucks could be that lol :D

I got everything down so far Iam playing it all slow at the moment the, the only part Iam having trouble getting down, and building speed is the tapping parts, since thats my weak spot.

its a good way to get better, this like practice, learning, and collab all in one.

dead line on this Jeff?

I might send you parts naked to see what you think if it sounds right.

Yea, that's right. You really have to hammer that 12 on the e string hard to get it to sound out since you should still have 16 on the g string ringing.

I think the phrasing is more difficult than the tapping though... But that's what makes it interesting IMO.

I stoked that you have also taken an interest.

Alright I think I have all the parts down but TAP 1 is still giving me some issues, I have the ideal or so I think its just strange lol

but my middle finger from tapping is sore how sad is that like I said I never tap and I often use my pick but I am coming to find I prefer holding it back with my first finger and thumb till Iam done taping then go back to picking.

Still sloppy and slow so...... till its decent/good Ill send a demo of the parts then.

I use my middle finger too. I use my 3rd finger to pick a string as I'm switching from tapping back to picking as the pick is usually too far for a smooth return.

I even got a blister at the begining. After that, nowadays it eventually hurts after a while but usually I can manage. And I don't normally tap a lot so I don't have thick skin on that finger tip..

Yeah it would probably sound better if the guitars were tonally furher apart. That's what I love about the modeler gadgets. I can record two tracks with the same guitar and the same technique and still have them sound well apart in the mix.

ibzRG said "probably sound better if the guitars were tonally further apart"

I agree, and this is the basic reason why I suggested that someone else play the second guitar. My tone is always kind of pinchy and too distorted most of the time. I really need to learn more about getting the best possible sounds out of my rig.

Hey Allan, I didn't dub the backing track yet. I'll definitely get it posted tomorrow. The BPM is 132 and it will be just that redundant rhythm guitar, bass, and percussion.

Steve is putting a track in so I'm going to try several different things with the mix once I get yours, his, and my tracks all together.

Quick question bud, I have jammed along with the original recording, and set to work on your tab and from the video.

I can see that when I din't know where you where while learning from the track itself, I was playing it differently. I think I was using more bends to achieve the last note in each pattern. What I wanted to say was is there room for me to add a little more by way of improv on your main riffs, without obviously going a bit over the top. Y'know just to give the repeating guitar something other than me just playing note for note?

I think adding a few subtle dynamic changes will add a little something to give the listener slight variation. But not entirely different as such.

Just a thought Jeff, it's your track dude and I don't want to screw it up.

But I'm really getting into it, its a cool tune Jeff.

The one with the guitar 1 track is just to place the first guitar in for reference. I'm going to re-record it so the quality is better.

When you send tracks please send an isolated guitar track without the backing.
My email is guitarmcp@hotmail.com. Or you can link to wherever you like to post your stuff.

Jeff,

Been working on this now after finishing a collab on iCrap....

Everything is going according to plan but for one minor niggle which is fast becoming a headache. The tapping bits wont pick up well through my UX-1 and with the Gearbox software. I have tweaked the 7 million buttons and knobs non-stop yet for some reason when I record it, then play it back, it sounds like I was caught in a vacuum and it was sucking all the sound out. Reall crap in other words, as tapping is one of my stronger points too!! ( Hell I learned Midnight by Joe way back when in the space of two days).

I dont get it, the hammer/pull notes ring out ok, but for some reason the actual tap wont pick up to complete the sequence and therefore the overall sound. I tried two guitars, JS and TC Ellis, both worked beautifully through my amp, but when I went to the UX-1 through the PC it just seemed to not register the tap part of the triplet.

I'll get there dude, cos I'm liking the vibe of your track. Bear with me a couple of days bud. I'll ask my mate Darren as he got his sorted and it screams!

I'm just anxious to hear it. Haha...

Sorry to hear you are having problems with the licks. I had difficulty with the hammer on the e string at the 12th. I fought with it for a while and almost change the riff so that a pull off would lead in to those notes but I decided that I could just focus on really hammering into hit hard with my fret hand to make it loud enough. It was a bit of a challenge for me because it's much easier to tap with the right hand and pull off to notes on the fret hand. I never really clearly understand what I'm doing anyway until I tab it out. I find tabbing more difficult than playing most of the time.

I'm just stoked that you guys were willing to learn my riffs and record them. Take liberties where you need to as far as changes go.

I'm patiently awaiting good vibrations.

Yes.. Sir Chester,

I am thine possessor of such blond Lotus Les Paul with Seymour Duncan Pickups.
I have some more work to do on mine as well. I have already changed the pickups and I'm happy with that. I also changed the pickup selector switch and I put on a tunomatic bridge to replace the old rusty roller bridge that was previously on it. I still need to Replace three of the pots (one I recently replaced). I also need to change the input jack. It makes noise when I move around. I think the coupling allows the cable to wiggle a bit. I also need to replace the tuners. I'm a dumb ass and I bought six inline tuners instead of 3hree on each side (my dyslexia). I should have bought the ones I wanted ( the right ones) instead of the ones the lady at the guitar shop talked me into (the wrong ones).

The pic is from before the pickup swap.

lol JTC, I stopped listening to shop people a long while back. One guy insisted on talking me out of replacing the whammy on my RG. Put me back a whole year until I was so fed up with the original crap on the rg that I just went in and said give it to me. That's how I do business with that shop ever since. I don't tell them my problem. I just tell them what want.

Sent you an e-mail there Jeff. Its a rough draught to get your input before I turn it up to 11 and go for the big one.

I think my software isn't picking up certain frequencies, maybe thats why my tapping isnt registering on it too well, so the demo is minus the tapping for now until I sort it out bud.

Too busy man. Too much guitar. Maybe cut out one of the other guitars or just play along with the original backing track again. Just a opinion though.

PS: That was a really cool lick at 2:05. Sounded like min9 arpeggio or something. I'm gonna have to cop that one.

Yeah it sounds busy at spots. My initial take was even busier so I had to tone down two of my riffs. It's hard to find living space between Jeff and Allan

Lemme try and cut some stuff to open up some space.

@ 2.05 I'm just shadowing Jeff. In a non-tap way. I didn't give much thought to the notes in the lick, just the shape of it.
