What are some bands that you guys listen to, and they dont get you pumped to go learn the song on guitar or anything, you just sit back and think "That was weird"
Lately Ive been listening to alot of prog rock. King Crimson and The Mars Volta make me think that. I dont feel excited about guitar, I just get excited about music in general, where its going, and that Im gonna be able to make stuff someday.

Good Night, Im going to sleep. If this thread made no sense, then thats because Im tired and half asleep.

Sallen! That is what I was going to say! Mr. Bungle!!!!! i like the 'Disco Volante' album..its got that heavy metal jazz...they have this one part where Michale Patton starts mimiking characters of the simpsons singing to the bizzarro music. The first album (that you have) isn't half as wierd as this or the easter bunny album..but yeah all in all Mr. Bungle..

If you want to listen to wierd digital music that is pretty cool check out Skinny Puppy especially their new album..saw them in concert. I was the onyl one there dressed normal and probably the only one there that was more familiar with their music than the punk kids that went to the concert.

I also have recently been listeninig to the Mars Volta alot. Really enjoying their approach to music i.e. If they get bored of it and it's not fresh anymore then its finished and is ready to be released.

I cannot say that it doesnt get me excited about guitar because everything does at the moment even novelty music like the Mighty Boosh and Fligh of the Conchordes! :-)

I listen to mostly funk rock/alternative etc eg Incubus, MUSE, Chilis but have quite a taste for prog however, most of it is European prog like Pain of Salvation etc (Really good band if any of you guys haven't had the pleasure!) so the Mars Volta has made a nice change lately.

I'm back from evacuation. God that was worse than Sitting through Katrina!!! Back to the subject, CLUTCH, Murder By Death, Dust For Life. I always have liked the off the beaten path music. I have MC 900ft Jesus CDs, VAST(Visual Audio Sensory Theater)one man band here. I think The Mars Volta's new stuff is good, but Deloused in the Comatorium is their best.

We look for oddball stuff to record in the studio. The more offbeat the better. Not that we get a lot. (Mostly little metal heads.) But we do ocassionally get something worth listening too. Ledbeater was a fairly recent group. Kind of punk-a-billy with a harmonica and a lead singer in the Elvis vein. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between the group and the music. What I mean is that when you have a close association with the people making the music, some of their "personal wierdness" spills over into the project, so we get a better insight into what they're trying to do.

Outside of that? I really like Hayseed Dixie & Dread Zeppelin. While they don't write their own music, their take on covers is what makes them stand out.

I love Tool's art and music. If you get into the meanings to everything, they actually have very positive ideals. I used to think they were pretty f'd up until I actually studied up on them. They are into esotericism and shamanism. You should read up on AlexGray.com, or COSM.org there Danno, or whoever is interested. I went there, New York. It's one of the few sacred temples I have visited that I actually felt the peace that people talk about. Chappel Of Sacred Mirrors.

Mars Volta songs talk about creepy stuff, and If youre just coming into the song, youre gonna be confused. I know spanish, so the words in Frances are pretty messed up. They all tell stories, and its not like they are trying to be shocking, just happens. I have not listened to or ever will listen to Insane Clown Posse. They scare me.
