A (yes 'A') or rather Am
So i was curious, if I'm writing a song in Am, where does my dorian mode start? im really new to modes and know very little about them other than i like the sound of the dorian mode (and how they're constructed). So if you have any other mode related pieces of advice let me know

Screamo and crunch chords
I just got back from a concert that some buddies of mine were in. The band before them was some crappy screamo band. They used crunch chords. A lot. I had to endure 25 minutes of F#,G, and G# and the same time. As you all know, half-step intervals sound like dookie. This band was the only band to do this, and the only band i have ever heard do this...

I don't understand how the notes work?
Okay, don't laugh at me. Actually, if you want to laugh, go ahead =P I don't know how 'music' works - I'll elaborate in a sec. First I'll just say that I, like 99% of guitarists, am 100% self taught. I've never had a lesson in my life, I worked it all out myself, with a little help from my uncle, the internet, and old song books. I've never unde...

haromonizing guitar lines
Hi, I'm trying to play both the main riff and the overdub (2nd voice) of black dog by led zep at the same time. The link shows the tab. I think it is correct this way. What I don't understand is what is actually happening there harmony-wise. I can see the major 3rds on the cromatic bits, the 4th and so fourth, but: is there an underlying con...

Fenders ? Not everybody uses them for blues .
Ted Green was the 'man' for chord-chemistry. Check-out his use of a Fender Tele. I suggest watching all the Ted-Stuff on YouTube. This man was the most famous, unknown musician EVER !

What is the purpose of music in your opinion?
To me, music is like food for the soul. Your well being needs it for some odd reason. Whether it's to have a good cry with some sad song or you have to let off some steam by listening to some metal, you just need it. What are your opinions on why we have music?

Wierd Chord
OK I have a chord that sounds cool, but im not sure exactly what it is. The root is a D, then theres an F# and a G. That's a root, a third and a fourth. I've looked in my chord book but the only chord with a fourth was a sus4, and EVERYTHING had a fifth. Anyone know what it's called?

Micro tones
Sallan, here we go... I am not completely illiterate, when it comes down to this type of discussion. It's just I am more into layman's terms. Kind of Carl Sagan on science. Generalities, first. Details later. I have never actually learned any music theoryexcept for Richard Lloyd, on his web page, and Guitar World. So if I don't catch up all the way...
