Mixolydian, or the closely-related Bebop scale (where you can alter between the b7 and nat. 7. in the Mixolydian mode).

I don't particularly have a favorite but Ifinf myself writing in Dorian and Ionian (major) a lot.

Spelling: DEFGABCD
W - H - W - W - W - H - W
W = whole step
H = half step

Not sure what you wanted for the spelling.

I mostly use the Pentatonic scale, but I'm making a habit out of using a bunch of scales my teacher gave me. (Ionian, dorian, lydian, mixolydian, that stuff). I also like using a certain scale... but the name escapes me.

the phrygian dominant sounds awesome for me, and the mixolydian mode does it for me a lot as well. i don't know the lydian and dorian modes too well yet, but the ol' extended major scales are a staple.

Melodic/jazz minor - CDEbFGAB and it's related modes. I've played the major modes to death, and harmonic minor (In a wanker context of course...) so it's time fo me to stretch out, and get some deeper sounds...

But having said that, I like e'm all. really.

the chromatic scale....many more creative possibilities with that scale. I like to think in a 12-tone kind of way when I solo. I do use the major scale as my base scale, but I try to use the other 5 chromatic notes not in the major scale as much as possible. Of course, you can be thinking in terms of major scale, pentatonic, blues, melodic minor, half-whole, or whatever, but all you are really using is a piece of the chromatic scale. I think the best solos are those which move freely throughout many different scale types, without your listener ever knowing it....

I have genarally been using the following scales. Am Pentatonic, C Major, E Minor at both the Open and 12th position and the G Pentatonic Major. I have also been trying to use these scales at different positions on the fretboard and also moving accros the positions as I play.

Currently, my favorite scale is the G7 scale. Me and my teacher were playing around with it the other day making solos and chords out of. It's a really neat and usefull scale.

That's a G Mixolydian, most likely, if you're using the scale implied by the G dominant 7 chord.
