I received the following email from Michael Charvel...

Hello Fred, thank you for the offer can you email us a list of the question's ? Talk with you soon Thank you Michael Charvel.

Subject: Guitar.com Chat
To: "'charvels@sbcglobal.net'"
Date: Thursday, March 26, 2009, 4:50 PM

Hello Mr. Charvel,

Some friends of mine were interested in talking to you on a guitar chat sight at www.guitar.com. We feel it would be a privilege to speak with you about your guitars and it might be a way of getting some of the guys there more interested in learning about real Charvel guitars. The sight is owned by Jim D'Addario and is currently being upgraded. I thought that if we could get you to log on for a half hour or an hour at your convenience it would be quite an honor to speak with you.

Sincerely,

Fred Kraus

I sent this email back to him...

Dear Mr. Charvel,

Thank you for taking the time to answer some of our questions. It means a lot, (we live for this stuff), so I'll tell the guys to get their questions ready and I'll fire them off to you as soon as possible. Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule.

Sincerely,

Fred Kraus

I think my question would be:

How do you feel about the quality of the Fender owned Charvels vs. the quality of the "Wayne" guitars that your currently making. Do you think the Fender owned Charvels come even close to the 80's shred machines that were built back in the day, and how do the "Wayne" guitars compare to the 80's Charvels?

:any plans to offer guitars equipped with the newer kahler flyer tremelos?

:any chance of the Oz Fox model making a return?

Both are strange question to ask a guitar maker. In my opinion.

Trevor's post made me want to clarify. We all post our questions here and then Fred passes them on, yes?

My question: How can a guitar manufacturer stay relevant in what appears to be a crowded industry?

Maybe a "how has the economy affected your cost/return?" type question? since we had that big Fender price increase thread recently.

He wants me to email him the questions then he'll email me back the answers. I'll post them here as soon as I get them. You may also want to check out their site at http://www.wayneguitars.com/ They have videos on there about how they make guitars. One particular type of paint they use costs..get this.. $5,000 a gallon, (I wonder if anybody has spilled any yet). Also, I think it might be cool to let him know where your from. So far we have...

Marshall2288: (Orange Park, FL)

how has the economy affected your cost/return?

--------------------------------------------------------------------
Waltz : ( Portland, OR)

How can a guitar manufacturer stay relevant in what appears to be a crowded industry?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
bachmirage: ( North Canton, OH )

:what artists are you currently working with?

:what newer models can we expect to see this year?

:any plans to offer guitars equipped with the newer kahler flyer tremolos?

:any chance of the Oz Fox model making a return?

--------------------------------------------------------------
Linus Maximus: (Glen Rock, Pa)

If your were suddenly in charge of Gibson or Fender, what would be the first thing you would change?
If you had to pick only one mistake, what is the single biggest mistake that Gibson and Fender make in your opinion?
Do you feel that the bigger corporations have forgotten their clientele over profit?
Has anybody ever spilled the $5,000 a gallon paint?

If you want to change, or add to your questions just let me know. I think a deadline of tomorrow afternoon at 6pm should be enough time before we submit the questions, unless you feel we need more time.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Pickabass: (Avonmore, PA)

Which makes the better guitar? Mediocre wood and great pickups, or great wood and mediocre pickups?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Jesse: (Manassas, VA)

Question 1. Throughout the years have you ever had any input on the Charvel brand since selling it or have you been asked by Fender for advice? Or maybe a Wayne Charvel tribute guitar?

Question 2. What inspires your paint designs? And after finishing a guitar do you look at it as more of a work of art or just a guitar with a kick ass design on it?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Leif: (Collingswood, NJ)

Do Wayne Replacement bodies come come with the option for custom routing for any body type?

I just wanted to point out that Grover Jackson purchased Charvel in 1978. So the question about the 80's shredders were pretty much Grover Jackson's deal but yes the company was founded by Wayne Charvel. Grover Jackson started using his name on the RR Jackson's because he wasn't sure how they'd go over and didn't want to ruin the Charvel name. Then Grover Jackson sold Charvel/Jackson to a Japanese company called AMIC in 1989. Charvel and Jackson then were purchased by Fender in 2002.

Oh and BTW looks like the email was from Micheal Wayne's son that does some kick ass paint designs!

Question 1. Throughout the years have you ever had any input on the Charvel brand since selling it or have you been asked by Fender for advice? Or maybe a Wayne Charvel tribute guitar?

Edited post to attach my cooler than cool 86' Charvel. :P

I'll send it off to Charvel late tomorrow afternoon/early evening. Again, feel free to visit the their website and post any questions that you may have...http://www.wayneguitars.com. They have some pretty cool videos on how they build guitars. So far, they've been the only ones willing to answer our questions, The others I contacted didn't even reply back to me..Fender, Gibson, Charvel (the one owned by Fender), or Ibanez. Here's a video from a guy they named "Chips"..lol
