And everyone's mad at the US over the environment. They're looking in the wrong direction.

I don't have any plans to attend. I HATE crowds! This is why they made television! You can see it, but you don't have to breathe it, smell it or eat it.

We have been sort of planning an out of country trip, but haven't decided where to go yet. We're looking at Peru, Turkey, Sweden, New Zealand and China. Probably a couple years off, if we can agree on where to go.

I went to the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984 - oh the crowds! It was fun though. And I could breathe the air to boot!

Allow me to suggest Okinawa, Japan as an awesome travel destination. I lived there for 3 years growing up in the Air Force and it was awesome. It's a tropical island where everyone speaks Japanese, but they still celebrate traditional Ryuku and Onishi festivals. There are castles all over the place that predate the European ones by several hundred years. Add to that some of the nicest beaches with the bluest tropical water you've ever seen.

I hardly watched them when they came all they way to my front door 4 years ago, not even on TV. Why would I even think of traveling halfway around the globe to watch them?

I see one good thing the olympics left us with. They raised the recycling and other eco-friendly awereness in some people (with all the fake-ish recucling bins placed around for the olumpics), enough to see some more shy steps on a political level (nothing big, but baby steps are better than just sitting there sucking on or thumbs).
They also got some infrastructures finished, that would have otherwise taken 50 years to build, if ever.

Other than that, they debts went through the ceiling and I don't care the least about who runs faster or who kicks better (dirtier?). It's all in the XXX-oids nowadays.

Boycott! China has an absolutely appalling human rights record. People were evicted from their homes to make space for the new stadiums.
