I have been thinking about this for a while and I think I am going to get a tattoo. I do not know what will be tattooed on me, where I will get it done, and if I will regret it later on in my life when my skin is sagging off of my body. I do think they can be very meaningful and tell a story, when done properly. So, putting no label on the guitarists of the world, I thought this might be a good place to get some decent advice. What I should avoid, what I need to look for in an artist, what body parts hurt the most(which matters a lot to me), how much it typically costs, etc...

Thanks!

If were to get a tattoo it would either be one of two things...
- A circle with my initials in it and my 4 guitars around it but pointing away from it
- An alien riding an eagle shooting a laser beam at mutants

(think I'll go with the guitar one if I ever get a tat) never gonna get one tho...

I like tattoos, but I'm not sure if I'll get one or not. I want to see what direction my body goes first, then I'll decide.

If I were to get a tattoo, it'd probably be several of them, in a variety.

Here's what I know: (If I'm wrong then there are others who can probably do a better job than I)

Sensitive areas like the hands(especially the palms and fingers), feet and chest are susceptible to pain. The underarms and areas behind the arms and legs are sensitive as well, or so I've heard. And that's all I really know about tattoo-related pains.

Obviously, avoid shady-looking parlors and make sure the guys clean their instruments before they needle you.

As for cost, the price depends on the shop, but it also depends on the size of the tattoo and how many colors are involved. If you're doing a custom job, have the image down and quote the guy/parlor on his/their prices.

I'm not sure what to look for in an artist, so no help there.

And that's all I know. Hope that helps. ^^

I don't have any, and I don't plan on having any, because getting one doesn't feel like me. It feels like trying to be something I'm not.
I'm not very fond of tatoos on other people either, with only few exceptions. My idea seems to be that the whiter and softer one person's skin is, the silliest the tattoos look on them. One has to think really hard about getting the right shape and size tattoo at the right place.

Places that seem to hurt most are: a)skin right over bones, b)busy areas that move a lot and rub against the clothes more than others.

Those are great! They look right if you know what I mean. That is what I am scared of....getting one that looks awkward.

I have a few - once you get 1 it becomes slightly addictive. I would say do not get a tat just to get a tat. If there is something you are very passionate about and will be passionate about for the rest of your life then I would say go for it. I will have to see if I can find a picture of my "Parker" tat - if not I will take one to post.

I would start with a small one and think carefully where you want it.

She wants advice about tattoos and not getting one is valid advice. I do not have one and the reason is that I have never felt like there was anything that I believed in that I'm 100% sure I will be that passionate about in 10 or 20 years. I wear the scars of years of mistakes and passions without the ink.

The fact I personally don't have a thing for tats is hardly any advice at all.

The advice part of my post was to carefully choose the tat and the spot. Still nothing useful though...
And she DID ask about what spots hurt most.

hey all she needs to think about is the tat you are going to get because you don't want a mistake so the advice I'd give you is get the tat and never regret it so don't get a a tat you will hate.
