Hey guys, its been a while since Ive dropped by the forums. Ive gotten a job over the summer, being a lifeguard at my local pool. Its a pretty great job, but I havent had hardly any time for guitar... One of my guitars strings havent been changed in about 4 months! anyways, how is everyone doing? I just logged on, so I havent read any of the latest stuff either. Whats new?

Why the hell would you think about playing the guitar when you're on a beach with girls in bikinis.

FYI, the theme song is sung by Jimi James, lead singer of 80s survivor. How many of you knew that?

Not a beach, but pool.... and thats why I havent been playing... but now the summer is coming to a close, my guitar skills are pretty weak now... I forgot more than a couple songs, and my speed has gone down to an extent....

but now, I have a question. I was watching this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEydKC680Ik

now im curious about what he is talking about.. can anyone explain in a little more detail? I know alot of my mode, but only in pattern form. I am really wanting to learn more about the way the notes go and stuff like that.. I'll ramble on more about what I want to know a little later. Thats it for now guys,

and welcome back steve, since you said you were in the same boat as me =)

Oh thanks heh I just meant the working part but, I think youve been here longer? The sweep picking Iam guessing he was sweep picking in those keys of the chords but he really didnt explain much :|

He mentions the Lydian mode which is one of the major sweeps he does. It has a raised 4th instead of a normal fourth and he plays it on the next to last note of the sweep (i think). Do this. Pick any major key and play it up and down for one octave. Now, start at the root and using your ears, play the theme from the Simpsons. You'll notice there is one note different from the regular major scale. There's the sound of your Lydian mode...
