While women working is no longer unusual, (remember I'm a child of the 50's and 60's when women worked part time maybe,) it is still a little unusual that your wife would make more than you do.

Just wondering what the general consensus is here. I'm long past kids so that's not an issue. I have a damned good job, with top notch benefits and make a pretty decent salary exceeding $65K a year. Now the wife just got a job that pays TWICE what I'm making. (Is the economy really THAT bad? I haven't felt it yet, other than high gas prices.)

I know a lot of guys who would have trouble accepting their wives making twice what they do, but personally I'm thrilled.

How would you accept not being the #1 bread winner in your home?

I would accept it by quitting my job and being a househusband/going to school/starting a business.

me and my wife both work. and work, and work, and work. we both have part time jobs on the weekends, and we both also work full time, too. she recently lost her job due to cutbacks, but she is looking for another one.

up until now we have made about the same amount, but if she finds a job tomorrow that pays twice as much or three times as much, i too would be thrilled. i guess some couples do it different, but we dont keep our money separate. we combine our incomes to pay all bills as well as anything else we do. we do not have his and hers checking accounts.
usually, i am the one who keeps track of our finances, and if i found that i have alot more income to work with, i'd be happy. i wouldn't care who earns more.

I was just curious. It's an amazing opportunity that just fell into her lap. She wasn't even looking!

If I weren't a worker I'd probably quit and promote the studio full time, but I NEED to work more than I need to relax, so I keep going. (Besides, I'm only 8 years from retirement, so it would be stupid to throw that away. Unless, of course, my job disappears.)

My only problem with it was that my brother lives with us and he hasn't worked a REAL job for almost 10 years. I wouldn't have been able to take coming home to him every day. BUT... As of Monday, he's working for the Denver Theatrical Union and has calls through next week and more on the way. Now that he's putting his life back together, I'm going to have a little more of my own.

Biggest drawback is that the job is "on the road." The wife will be gone 4 days a week. The pay makes up for a lot though. If this lasts I will have all my bills and the house paid off within the next two years. Horray for capitalism!

"Biggest drawback is that the job is "on the road." The wife will be gone 4 days a week. "

That is EXACTLY why she will make the money she will make.. It's NOT the job it's the "on the road" thing..

This is NOT a bad thing.. However; I piece of advice.. Have her sign up for every Feq Flyer and Hotel perk she can..

I haven't been a constant Road Warrior for a couple of years now and I'm still living off my miles and hotel points.
It's nice to be able to decide to Fly to (insert city here) for the weekend and only have to pay for the food and rental car.

in answer to the question.. bother me NOT in the least.

i dont find alot of time for guitar, or relaxing. i just do it a little here and there when i can. weekday evenings i'm usually home, so i relax a little, but of course i gotta mow the yard, keep the weeds cut, take care of my vegetable garden, maintain my home, ect.

i also raise rabbit beagles and i love to rabbit hunt or just work with my dogs. i dont get to do alot of that, either. i guess thats how it goes.

I'm not married, but my sister is a doctor and was offered an entry level job of 200K. My friend is also a doctor as are his girlfriend and sister and they will all make about 300K within a few years of starting work if not more. And I make significantly less than that. So, no it's not weird. Lol...

i used to have a job where i did alot of traveling, but i didnt fly so i dont know much about the frequent flyer miles. i did stay in alot of hotels/motels, and i never found their programs to be very helpful. my travels were in many areas and not always in big cities. i didnt want the hassle of having to try to find a certain brand of motel in the middle of the night.

Steve Aguilar,

I wish I was your age and had your decisions to make. My advice is if you are serious about music, go at it fullsteam starting now. Find every excuse to practice and play with others and work as little hours as possible.

On the other hand, if music is more of a hobby, go to college and bust your ass. Sacrifice your life for a few years while you do that. You'll find the options you have when you graduate will have made it worth it.

Basically, whatever you do, college/music, don't do it half-ass like I did in my late teens/early 20s.

I second what jobabrinks said. If I could go back, I would have said fuck it to the girlfriends and done more with music production. In college, girlfriends are a deadly time suck. Make the sacrifices when you are young and flexible. There will be time later to lay around with your girl (or guy or whatever gets you off).
