It's kind of funny , everyone I know laughs at me for being as paranoid as I am . However today because of my need to have several bank accounts I still have all my money . I have a separate checking account not attached to anything with any real money , which is the one I use for all my online purchasing , ebay ,paypal, anything mail order etc.
I simply take enough money from my real accounts and deposit it in this one when I want to buy something . I also have this account set up to notify me via email if the balance ever drops below $50 . Today when I got up I got an email informing me my balance was in the neg 462.77 . So when the bank opened I called them and went down there . There are over $1700 pending in charges to my account set to got through Monday morning . So I removed all of my money except 1 penny ,canceled my overdraft protection to insure the account can not go into the red and get me fines of $25 for each trans below $0 , and canceled my debit card for the account so no more charges can be pending between now and then . I just have to go through the steps to open a new account now and reattach it to anything that is automatically withdrawn . While this is irritating to say the least I did catch it before anything really damaging took place .
A woman I worked with was already out $75000 before she knew what was going on . She had to put a freeze on all her assets until they could sort out everything .

I had my credit card frauded twice. Once I got a call from mastercard and they said "did you buy an ATV in the southern US?" I replied no, they said that they would mail me a new card and that it was no longer any of my business. The other time I was all of a sudden $2k over my limit and called them and they dealt with it. So of course I am now a bunch more careful about using my credit cards, clearing my cookies etc.

I don't use a credit card. Yet. And when I do, I sure will make a separate account for it.

Now that it has happened to me and I have had a conversation with a few people I know , I am amazed how many of them have responded with " oh yeah we went through something just like that about a year ago " . It feels like you are living one of those dateline specials . I checked my account this morning and all of the fraudulent charges have been denied because of the steps I took yesterday , and my account stands at .01 cents to the positive since I withdrew all the money yesterday . If I had waited even 12 more hours to report it and do something I would be spending Monday filling out paperwork to start the waiting process to get my money back .
