I myself am just waiting for football season. Only sport where I can follow a single team and see ALL their games in a season.

Stupid hockey in the Denver area, is relegated to a cable channel and I have satelite so I can't watch crap during a season. NFL has it right. Present the games to the public in their home markets. Even without sellouts you can at least see half of your team's season.

Aside from that there are FAR too many games in other sports. In the NFL it's pretty clear where everyone stands at the end of each week of play and with a total of 256 games for the entire season, it's a lot less brain drain to follow it all.

I can't wait cause the season will be over soon and then the Leafs will get a new coach and get another chance to not make the playoffs, AGAIN....

Football? Are you serious? I will give you that the brevity of the playoffs is a plus, but beyond that... football? How do teams finish a season when half of them can't keep out of jail. Just move their court dates to the off season? And does anyone understand half of the penalties? Illegal formation? Illegal motion? In eligible receiver down the field? What the shit does that mean? And the pace of the game? If I were a fan I would feel so abused. The ratio of actual play to commercials, tv time outs, and down time is so lop sided. Please, explain to me what the appeal is.

Yeah, the Leafs' organization is in trouble. They need to clean house from top to bottom; from GM all the way down. I was surprised that Sundin stayed the whole season. They should have traded him for some young talent. It saddens me to see a franchise with such a rich history in such rough shape.

The appeal is much of what I already stated. (Hockey players aren't much better role models. When one player can attack another on the ice, during the game, and continue to play in the league... Goodell would have them suspended in a heartbeat.)

And IF you do follow it, the rules are pretty simple. I could say the same for many of the hockey rules.

Hey, we all have our tastes. I'd probably be more of a hockey fan if I could watch most of the games. Don't hate the game at all and it's great in HD, but if I can't follow the team by watching most of the games, then the few that they do show on regular TV make far less sense to me and carry far less interest.

Glad you're looking forward to it and hope you thoroughly enjoy it. As for me, I'm waiting for August. Yes, I'll even watch the pre-season games.

Sorry for flaming so quickly. Football just happens to be a hot button issue for me (how were you to know that?). Having grown up in the shadow of Detroit (Hockeytown, USA) and Southwestern Ontario, the sport is in my blood. And watching football become the number one sport here was frustrating. The NHL expanded to new markets and brought on new fans in places you would have never thought it could go (Tampa Bay, Raleigh, etc). I keep asking what hockey is doing wrong. Now the only air time they get is on a second tier cable channel?

No problem man. I fully understand the fan mentality and it's cool. I won't hold it against you. At least not a LOT!

Maybe if hockey were more like Slapshot (the Paul Newman version,) it'd be more fun for me. I lived in upstate NY when they shot that film and was involved in some of the "fan" scenes. I LOVE that movie, but still find it difficult to sit through watching a game on television. Going to the game is a different story though. Much like baseball, (which I'm not into either.) At least when you go to the game you don't get drunk and fall asleep before it's over. Well, I don't...

I don't really get football. Honestly, I'm not really that much into hockey either, but I'm legally obligated to cause I'm Canadian (and I grew up with psycho Leafs fans). I have to love beer a lot too. lol

Well, Canadian football is a different animal! I don't understand why they use "yards" instead of "meters" Considering the field size would translate to similar numbers in width and length. There are lots of differences between Canadian and American football. I'll watch it though, because it's pretty similar. (Usually not a whole game, just sometimes need a quick fix.) I'll also watch Arena Football, for for the same reason. Though I don't actually follow either. The NFL is where it's at for me as I can plan to put aside a part of a Sunday afternoon and evening as well as Monday night to watch. (Plus the ocassional Saturday and Thursday later in the season.) Other sports play whenever they feel like it and you have to put more effort into following your team and when they're playing.

Yeah, it's pretty mindless, but then that's what sports should be about for me. (This should also allude to the fact that I see fantasy sports as too much work to be worthwhile. I just don't have the time to "play" the game.)

Hockey "Yawn", Although to be fair I did attend a game in Denmark and the crowd went crazy. It was a beer drenched affair with the local guys winning, but sorry I fall in the football camp, maybe if I understood the rules better....

I've gotten to the point where I've become extremely cynical about professional sports. Every body's juiced out of their skulls on steroids. If you go to see a game you'd better empty your bank account. When I saw the Baltimore Orioles, (gag), beer was something like $8.50 a cup. I also get tired of hearing about players raping, shooting, stabbing people when they aren't busy trying to put the other guy in a wheelchair for life over some money and a trophy. Then there's Michael Vick, the Hannibal Lecter of the canine world. Don't tell me there's no such thing as organized crime. They're all wearing numbers.
