I wouldn't say they are fleecing us since the price of oil and gasoline is set by speculators on commodities exchanges like NYMEX. They are fucking us in ass by stifling research and technological advancements into alternate energy sources. And why not? When you have record profits due to record prices for petroleum who gives a fuck about the common good of man? This is an issue that makes my blood boil. After the gas crisis of the late 70s, we should have woken up as a nation and demanded a better energy policy. Now look at us: Record prices for petroleum, which is causing prices on every other necessity like food to rise and we are stuck in a war in a part of the world we have no business being in, all in order to preserve a pipeline to more petroleum. The combustion engine has outlived its technological life span. It is time to move on. It is time for big oil and the auto industry to stop dragging its feet.

If we all banded as a nation and said we are not going to buy from just one gas station, the price would drop. They are making too much money off of this shit as it is. I do agree that a new means of transportationis in order for the next hundred years, but I am wondering what will be done. We night be headed torwards a difficult time these next ten years, while the next "fearless leader" rises to power. Please don't let it be Nimrod, (Al Gore)!!!!! He is making so much money off of his little scam, it's not even funny.

I have to disagree. Gas stations do not set the price of gasoline, the speculators on the commodities exchanges do. The guy running the corner gas station has a profit margin thinner than a piece of paper. The problem is much, much higher on the food chain. Some wealthy innovator with zero ties to big oil or the auto industry is going to have to take the first steps and build our bridge into the future.

In regards to your comment on us being headed for difficult times, I do agree. I think it is going to get ugly for the US and the next president better be ready to tackle some big issues. My fear is that we will see a repeat of the great depression.

You say that, but I have watched the gas station change the gas price for a weekend, and then back to normal on a Tuesday.

We will never see gas below 3.75 a gallon again here in CT, never. 4 years ago when i bought my truck gas was 1.45 a gallon i put gas in my car yesterday and it was 3.85 and that was the 87 oct.

fucking oil companies reporting record billion dollar profits every quarter, meaning after bills are paid, are you fucking kidding me. Gas is a neccesity, you must have it like electricity and water and food. In Ct we pay 95 cents on a gallon for tax, check your local gas tax, its pretty disgusting. pretty soon people won't be able to afford to drive to work, or buy the needed food to survive, its gonna get ugly, if somethings not done to regulate oil. your gonna see the floor drop out on the economy and it won't take long. that stimulus check will be a drop in the bucket. the governement should be on the oil companies to send us a rebate check, for the billions we the people are putting into thier pockets. i'm sorry i'm ranting. ....
