I went to the school dance tonight, and I have to say the music was crap. And the fact that the sound quality was bad (way too much treble...someone didn't know what they were doing) didn't help either. ALL of the fast songs, except for 1 song, were hip hop/rap. In past years, someone else was in charge of the music ( the students do the party planning and music), it was much better.
Grrgh..I just needed to vent on that, and I though that this would be a good place for that...

Welcome to the world of school dances. Crappy music, all the boys sit at one table and the girls at another, with maybe 6 people actually dancing. Everyone feels awkward.

Ha at my school it's the opposite... everybody dances, with maybe six people sitting at the tables feeling awkward. But the music DOES suck. I skipped out this year (I think it actually just started or is just about to start), me and my friends planned on paintball instead. But that didn't work out, mostly because my buddy David broke his collarbone in a soccer game.

The only real music I like to dance to is waltz and ballroom stuff. Kind of a surprise to the few people who have gone to my profile and seen that my genre is "Death metal, metal." I think its kind of funny.

Not really, considering that metal borrows heavily from classical and neo-classical music.
[Metal borrows the most from blues, but that's besides the point]

I went to a disco once, and they didn't play a single Dream Theater track.

So I've subsequently never gone to another one

when I was in high school the dances were a thing to avoid because they didn't play ANYTHING good.

When I was in Jr. High School they would play Metallica - ONE because there was a large volume of requests for it, but only 5 guys would be on the floor headbanging and playing air guitar and everyone else sitting along the walls.

I've never been to a school dance in my life. I don't really dance, so I figured why waste my time. Not to mention, I probably wouldn't know any of the music they were playing. It's not like they play rock music. They act as if you can't dance to rock songs! Sheesh.

then there's the dj's who do techno remixes of rock songs....

I feel they should be hung, shot and stabbed...then pissed on and beat with a baseball bat before being drawn and quartered.

Stuff like AC/DC , Bob Seger, or any classic rock song for that matter should not be subjected to a techno beat. :)

I've been to 3 proms. They played whatever music was popular on the radio. It didn't bother me though because the only thing I was worried about was getting into my date's pants.
