Below are a few phrases that for various reasons, grate on my last nerve...

Old school

Gettin' your ____ on (insert whatever inane activity you like, i.e. sip, drink, groove, etc.)

It's for the children.

It's for the enviroment.

It's for your own safety.

The list goes on.

The "Old School" term is one I really don't like. The American vernacular seems to change constantly, and very quickly I might add. The term "cool" somehow morphed into "sweet" in a short period of time, and god know what it was in between, gnarly, bodacious, rad, boss....

haha I actually use "Old School" quite often. I kind of like the vernacular I guess. Then again, Mark Twain is one of my favorite authors, so go figure :-P

The ones that grind on me are when people randomly quote hip-hop lyrics walking down the street.

Not so much that, as much as it is random snippets of songs without any actual music to put them to. It's like Tourette's, only people do it to be "cool" where I'm from.

I hate being called brother, I only have two of them and anybody else using that moniker probably misunderstands our relationship.

Well, some of the ones I hear at work that send me up a wall are..

Your not a team player.
I have a bachelor's/master's/PhD, I can start at $60, 80, 100K anywhere, (in other words, I'm too good for this)
People no longer have problems, they have "issues."
I think "suck it up" is getting to be a bit overused.

Fred, I think you should just take the bull by the horns and deal with all those outliers! If you just ping them and get them on the same page, it'll all be good.

Sorry, I was speaking corporate-ese.

Take the bull by the horns = take the initiative in a bold and dramatic way
outliers = anyone or anything that does not fit the norm
to ping somebody = get in touch with them, usually electronically, phone, IM, email
getting people on the same page = come to an agreement

It was the "outliers" and "ping" that threw me. Oh well, it's off to work wher I can think outside the box about getting rid of my boss. She's on the same page with Satan. She just loves workshops on being better teamplayers.

LOL!!!!

About 2 years ago, my company hired a "how to properly behave at the workplace" consultant to conduct a mandatory workshop. Upon discussing with my co-workers, nobody thought the class was useful. Everyone were pretty much behaving properly, and if there was soneone who wasn't, the class didn't change anything.

I know, what is up with this mandatory workshop crap. Everybody hates it. We have to do a "Reflections" thing on the 19th, I'm sooo not looking forward to this. O
