Its something I would like to dismiss in my head so I can move on, with this webcred business where you can support your caffeine habits, is the cake a lie? If I say had 3,000 webcred would I likely be finally able to purchase a cup of coffee or something?

I like ratings systems, it shows who knows their stuff, but could I really truly use the ad money to buy a coffee one day? If so, would you share you experiences?

You can't buy anything with webcreds. I think you are referring to the commission for recommendation feature. I have yet to hear of anyone making any money from them though.
A lot of people get their webcreds from posting blogs and lessons. Those are the guys you see with thousands of webcreds. I earned mine through the forums only. That's probably why only have about 1400.

Personally, I think the WebCreds thing is goofy. It has a sense of 'accounting' to it that doesn't have any objective 'point'.

I think it'd be cool just to track the number of posts (any kind) and have designated 'levels'. Newbie (under 100 posts), Rookie (under 200), Up-and-Coming (under 500) ... stuff like that.

This way, when I see someone who seems to be even weirder than ME ... I could tell if they've been around a while. If they have, .. they deserve a bit of respect -- being an 'elder' on the playground. Also, when I see the folks with '2' webcreds, I purposely keep an eye-out for them -- to see what they are 'like' ......

Anybody else ?

the webcreds are there to encourage good behavior. nobody wants negative creds so it helps keep the craziness down.

yeah i think the higher your web creds the more or longer you've been on this ste and it just gives credibility as Bach says of good behavior...if you have -200 noone is going to listen cause they know you are there just tp start problems..

But i think that getting over [sorry, i meant under] -200 creds should get you voted off, except Billy Bob
He's a good member, he just derives pleasure from getting -1s

But this rule should definitely be enforced. It'll keep spammers and Patrick Hoppers off the site

You joined after Patrick Hoppers got kicked off
You could always search for him in 'members' and check out his profile, though
Check out his creds

You can't always judge a member's longevity by their webcreds. Before my last account went kaput, I had well over 1000. I was also a regular poster at the old g.com since about 2000-2001. Heck I even had a guitar.com email address, back when the site offered those!

Like everyone else is saying, it's more a "should we listen to this guy" score.

but it still doesn't go for much with regards to how long people have been here. I was on the old forum since 02 under another login name and I have been with this one since I think it started under this new style.

I just don't post much because I don't have much to say anyway. lol
