A friend's dog was put down at 2pm today... it's an awful experience for everyone. The dog was considered one of my pets in a way, he spent a lot of time at my place, I used to jog with him and he would nap with my cats regularely. He drew ladies at the park even more than I do by myself and was a happy friendly little mutt. I figured I'd share because for the most part I don't have bad emotions, I generally just roll with the punches and keep in a good mood. However for some reason this really shook me up, and my girlfriend more so since she works at the animal hospital and put him down.

I had this picture I took of the dog and owner printed and framed and am going to give it to him tonight.

RIP MICKEY.

I think the picture is exquisite and a good idea. You, eds, are a good friend.

It's really easy to get attached to dogs. I have two that are getting old and I know any day now could be their last.

My first dog was a black lab, and my parents got him when i was 6 months old, so we grew up together. He died when I was 11 and I'll never forget it.

I have three cats and they are better friends than most humans I know. They [animals in general] are simple creatures, lacking the bullshit that pretty much defines human nature... they like to sleep, eat play, and understand and read emotion. I've been moping about Mickey all afternoon and my cats have just been hanging around and climbing up on me and leaving me be when I've had enough of them and their sympathy.

It's amazing how they wait for you at the end of the day. The rest of the world can be extremely hostile toward you, but they always come up to you with all the love in the world. They'll also grieve with you.

Ya i hear ya man, we had to put the family dog down a couple years ago, it was rough on everyone especially my dad. But the dog was 16 years old, survived cancer once and the second time around it was too much for him. They did it at home in his favorite place to chill, which i recommend to everyone.

My 2 cats are like my children, one is 13 and the other 12, and i know they won't be around forever, i don't know what i'd do with out em. I know thats not very "metal" of me but I love my cats, they are better than most people I know!!!

I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have any pets...I remember once a friend came over, and one of the llamas died when she was here...:(

My last dog got nailed by some loser in one of those huge hemi pickups with a confederate flag splashed across the back window, and since I live in one of those tiny neighborhoods with a double nickel speed limit, there was no reason for him to have not seen the dog or been going however fast he was (I didn't actually see him hit my dog, I just heard my dog scream and then ran outside and saw the truck driving off). So I hate those people now.

They are actually a dying breed where I live.

Of course, I don't live in the middle of the country anymore, so that could be why :-P

The sad thing is, I know a few of those guys who brag about how many dogs they've run over, and from hearing them talk it's almost like they're trying to hit them. Those are the guys that need to have their scrotum meet a soldering iron.
