So, this morning, I was adjusting the tuning on the ol' geetar and snapped the high E string, nailing myself in the hand and lip. Then I pondered about the time I somehow managed to break a low E string (can't really remember if it was from tuning or me frigging around in a way I shouldn't have been frigging around), and then I thought, "I bet those guys on guitar.com got some interesting, and possibly hilarious, stories about broken strings!", so, now I'm asking, has anyone broken a string in such a way that it would make for good story? Please, do tell!!

Shiite, I have broken too many, but the best was when I was trying to show off for a girl back when I was in the 13th grade, and I was trying to look cool, and I started playing extremely fast with my picking hand, and it snapped at the bridge, came up and hit me in the nose and almost the eye. I laughed and she consoled. So it was all good.

Yeah, cause there's nothing like injuring yourself to get a girl to pay attention to you lol

My bad, dude I accidently -1 you instead of +1. I a mean the two semesters of Junior college that I went to. It might as well have been the 13th. Same classes as the 12th.

My friend told me of a guy in our town who severed a finger playing one of those big stand up basses. I'm not sure if its true or not.

so i'm playing a show with this floyd equipped guitar. last song of the night...right at the start of the song i blow out the high E string. as those with floyds can attest, once you blow a string, the whole guitar goes out of tune(waaay sharp). so i spend the whole song "holding" the bar down to put the guitar back in relative tuning just so i can finish the song. completely different solo, of course....band is staring at me in confusion till they see the flapping string. what a nightmare. thank god it was our last tune. and an original tune at that so no-one really noticed except the band.....kind of funny in retrospect......

Nothing, I mean NOTHING worst than snapping a string on a guitar with a floating trem. Thats why they invented backup guitars!

I saw Michael Hedges break a string in concert. For whatever reason he decides to change the string right there on stage while he's talking to the audience instead of getting another guitar. I never could figure out why. So he's tuning the high E string up and...PONG..he breaks a second one. Pulls out a pack of strings that he's got in his back pocket, picks one and puts the rest back in his pocket. Starts to tune it up again and...PONG..now he pulls out the entire pack again, picks one out and throws the rest in the air. The audience is laughing. While he's tuning that one up somebody throws a pack of strings on to the stage and Hedges says "yep it' gonna' be one of those nights." The audience just lost it. He managed to tune that one up and went on. After the song, he walked over, picked the strings up and put them in his back pocket.

I don't break strings too often. There is just one occasion of a string breaking on my guitar that stands out. So I was playing and all was fine. Then my bro walks in and for some reason I hand him the guitar. The moment he *touches* the guitar, the A string goes blam ! Just like that.

I had one come unwrapped at the ball end. Luckily it was at practice and not a gig. I kept tuning it up and as soon as we'd start to play it would go flat. Band members looking at me like I'm an idiot who can't even tune my guitar. Then finally it came completely unwound and just fell off. That's the only time I've ever see a string come unwound like that.
