this is a post born partly out of boredom and partly out of discomfort....................
im spending my weekend at the rescue station like i often do, and the weather is getting warm.
for some reason there is a nice big lock on the thermostat, and i cant control the heat pump.
it was 80 degrees today and the damn heat is on.
i have turned off the breaker to stop the heat but it sure would be nice to have a little a.c.
now im havin trouble trying to sleep. i woke up sweating a little while ago.....................

aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An Australian aboriginal trick is to dampen a thin sheet and lay it over you. The evapouration really cools you down long enough for you to fall asleep. It doesn't work as well in very humid climates.

Besides the heat, the other problem you probably have is that your aggravated by having to deal with getting the heat turned off. Often when I can't sleep I put music on down low. In this situation I'd put a cool, wet compress over my eyes. Then I close my eyes and try to concentrate on the song. It takes my mind off of whatever is pissing me off or upsetting me. If you have access to ice you may want to wrap that up in a towel and just let it melt on your skin slowly. You could also try a mixture of rubbing alcohol and water and wipe your body down with it. Any air that hits you will feel much cooler.

Sleep Naked (yay)!!! However, if you can't do that for whatever reason, jump into the shower with cold water for about a minute or two (until you're cool enough) and leave yourself slighly damp when you get out. You may need to repeat that a few times before you get really comfortable, depending on how hot it is.

Man, oh man, after Katrina hit down here, we were sweltering in bed, hell, everywhere!! We had filled up the tubs before the storm moved inshore, and about two days later we went in to the bathroom, and stuck our feet in just to see. It was extremely cold compared to what we had been used to in the day, because the tub was porcelain. It was phenominal!!!!!
