Seriously. What kind of guy sits around and thinks "I'll create a virus that will make a computer keep rebooting before it ever gets to Windows XP? That's what I got. And I wasn't even surfing porn. It was graduate school test sites of all things. These hackers should be rounded up and have their fingers cut off.

unfortunately the ones doing things like what you described are the lowest scum of all because they don't even use their malicious software for financial gain....you sir, have contract a "nuisance virus".... basically designed to do nothing but annoy you and slow down the productivity of your computer related tasks.

for god sakes at least the ones stealing your passwords and banking info or identity are creating viruses with a purpose...although they are still scum. :)

These are the same pieces of shit who put key scratches in cars and blow up mailboxes. Vandals of any kind make me want to kill them slowly. They're lower on the human scale than politicians, and that's pretty frickin' low.

LOL!!!!!

That song is on my mp3 player! Seriously! I love that song! It's called Love is Blue by Paul Mauriat.

Anyway, that sounds like a boot sector virus. Reinstalling the OS probably won't fix it. Try Partition Magic and wipe your partitions and create a new one, then reinstall your OS.

Also buying a Mac can help, in that the installed base of Macs isn't as large as the installed base of PCs so virus creators go for the biggest bang for their efforts. Mac's aren't immune from viruses. They're just not as big a target as PCs.

Oh man, this thing hit my computer the second I landed on that site. It's a program that tries to scare the hell out of you by telling you that you need their program to get rid of all these horrible viruses....that it created. It won't let you online, no matter how you try to get rid of it, it just keeps coming back. Boxes keep popping up, so you have to go into task manager to clear them off. I ran Spybot last night and it managed to kill 96 viruses that this thing single handedly created, but it wasn't able to get rid of three of them, some type of trojan virus. I have protection on my computer, but it went right by all of it. Our OTS dept. gave me a disc with some software on it that hopefully will find this bug and kill it! I'm just worried about passwords, credit card numbers that have been used, etc. falling into someone else's hands. A lot of it was "malware" and "spyware."

First of all, WHY aren't you protected??? There are free anti-virus and anti-adware programs out there so there is no excuse for not having any.
I've been snobbing protection for a long time because I never contracted anything. For years I was clean until one day I wasn't.

Pr0n sites are not the only sites you can catch malware from. In fact the serious sites are as clean as any place or else it would be bad for their business. The biggest threat is files you download and run. Pirated software, key-generators, and the sites supporting them are much more dangerous places than professional pr0n sites.

That said, rebooting before windows loads, is not necessarily a virus. It could be a hardware failure or it could be an error in Windows that has happened through something you did or didn't and may not be related to malware. I think I remember having this issue when I had the worst windows ever sold : WindowsME. I don't remember how I fixed it. I think it kinda fixed itself after a while. A lot of things happened with that version of windows, where one thing would go crap-ware on me and then magically start working again after a long while.

Did you try booting in safe mode and run a couple of anti-malware thingies?

It happened right after I got some virus that had gave my computer popups. I haven't had such a virus in several months because I've been surfing with Firefox. When I went to restart, it keeps recycling. Won't go into safe mode. It realize it sounds like a hardware problem, but that's a little too coincidental.

I always imagine they're disgruntled Microsoft programmers who've been telling their boss for years that there are gaping holes in the OS and then one day get tired of griping and just make a virus to prove their point!!!

And no... I don't work for Apple :-)

I think the anti-virus software programmers put holes in the system on purpose just to piss us all off and pay them MORE money to fix the problem until they decide to create a new one.

conspiracy theories aside, AV software is actually a necessity if you are on the internet or even if you share software with other people but don't have the internet...

I would not be surprised that the first ever created viruses came from some of the first people to create AV software, but in todays world anyone could create a virus and use it to cause serious harm...there would no longer be a need for an AV provider to create their own virus to give their software a purpose.

I'm paranoid too and I know Nortons etc....need to justify thier existence. But there are still geeky evil anti-social fuckers that sit in thier bedroom chiken choking and inventing viruses to make everyone miserable and feel like they have power over at least one miserable thing in thier miserable little dick beating lives! Let's cover them in dog food and throw them into michael Vick's back yard.
