Recording loops
Does anyone have some basic tips for creating loops of guitar work? I want them to sound natural but when I try to loop a simple chord progression that is strummed I can't ever get it to sound good, you can always tell it is fake so I'm looking for some advice if anyone has any experience. Should I play it repeated and take out my best measures? O...

New, affordable interface/software packages available
M-Audio recently released 3 affordable recording packages, each with an audio interface and a watered down version of protools. The protools is limited to 16 audio tracks and 3 effects per track, and comes with the 60 or so plugins the other version of protools come with [and from personal experience, they sound really good]. You also get a few sof...

Embarrassing
A while back on Icomp someone posted the first line of a song and on their forum asked if anyone could suggest where to go from there. I put together a generic chord progression from the Stone Age and posted it for him. I didn't actually play it. I wrote it on GuitarPro then sent it as a Midi to Mixcraft. Then I duplicated it and put effects on the...

Guitar Input or Mic an Amp
So... I have got my 8-track and I'm really happy with it. I have mic'd up my accoustic with a Shure SM57 over XLR and have a good quality of recording. But when it comes to electric I have two options. I can either mic up my amp with the SM57 and use that as the input or plug my guitar (and effects board) directly into the 8-track. Does an...
