I recently found a bunch of backing tracks that I plan on using/recording over. This being one of them.

I'll have to ask 'ol Padre to get the bpm, but I'm pretty sure it's in the key of G. I'm not the greatest with theory, so maybe Farlow can shed a little light on that one.

I did a take already, however I'm actually attempting to edit it into something worthy this time, rather than just using the initial take with all my screw-ups.

Enjoy folks, and post up ASAP!

A good track to jam on, but at 4min you might have to cut it in half for submissions or just do it as a collab with one or two other people. It is in G Major and it's 75bpm. (Father Dougal had a problem with his equipment slowing down some of these tracks, that's why he needed (needs) the bpm. Something to do with conversion between file types or from one application to another.) They have a file size limit on icomp so if the piece goes over that you can upload it to a file-sharing site and everyone can d/l from there.

PLAN B: One whole verse takes about 55secs so you could just post a shortened version for players to d/l and jam over.

You think about 1:50 is good? (2 verses?)

Any chance you'd be willing to cut it down a bit? My editing skills are non existent at the moment.

I kind of liked the idea of longer tracks, and most of the new ones I snatched are 3 + minutes, but I suppose it would be easier to shorten it up.

Well I decided that I couldn't cut it down. LOL

Here's my take, fellas:

I actually attempted some editing and did more then one take. If you decide it's too long, by all means just post a shorter version, but I would really like to hear what everybody can do with a longer track.

As it was too long, I recorded the backing at 100 bpm, I think it sounds a little brighter with some oomph!

But my laptop was plaguing me and constantly cutting the sound, so I had to guess where the backing would kick back in, its crackling and fizzing and popping too, I swear to fuck it is getting hit with a hammer pretty soon. Anyhoo, excuse this version, I had a lot to put up with, but its not too bad for a wee lad!?

Good shit, Padre.

I can't say I liked the tone too much though. I don't know what kinda gear you're playing through or anything like that, but I would think a smoother sounding lead-type suits this piece a little better. Playing was a little choppy in some places, but was pretty damn good for all the snap crackle and pops you had to deal with! LOL

Always a pleasure, bro. NOW GET TO WORK ON THE METAL!!!

I may end up re-doing a lot of my stuff as well.

It seems the more I listen to it, the less I like it. I'm suprised I've had the balls to post any of this shit, because I'm actually a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to releasing my own material. However, the backing track shits give me a bunch of leway because I didn't write any of it!

I often think about redoing all my old stuff but I've never bothered. If you can just decide what you didn't like about it and remember that next time you work on something, then it has served it's purpose. What we are learning here is how to deliver music in a range of styles within a deadline. It's a very loose deadline and there's no money riding on it but, for a lot of us, the alternative would be endless noodling over our favourite 3 chords - I could sit here and play a 12-bar blues in A all day and I wouldn't learn anything new.

I think perfectionism can be a good thing for a musician but ultimately, the music which is delivered is always better than the potentially-perfect take that may or may not be ready some time in the next 5 years.
