Yes, our own little Mizz Lizz will be in the studio tomorrow recording vocals for a project that she, IbzRG and myself have gotten ourselves involved in.

Before anyone asks... We tell everyone who comes to our studio that it's like Vegas. What happens here, stays here. That applies with Liz as well. She can tell you all about it when she returns, but policy dictates that I can't say anything about what happens behind the closed studio doors other than the general, "It went well." The same will apply for posting what she does. I'll only be able to post it IF she approves, which I hope she does.

Should be a fun day. She's never been in the studio before so I expect she'll be pretty nervous. She's also singing to a complete mix she's never heard before. It's not going to be all that easy for her, but as long as it's fun that's all that really matters!

Ibz... You're still in this man. I'm not going to grouse about getting .wav files either. This is an internet project, so mp3s will be fine. I'll mix as best as I can, (or, I should say, my engineer will mix as best as HE can!) I've been procrastinating on this. I finally sat down last night and recorded the drum parts. In fact, I put the songs I have on a loop and worked out the drum parts for about 2 hours before recording them. I don't really play drums, but I HATE MIDI, pre-programmed, stuff and to my ears even mediocre drumming is better than MIDI. It's nothing fancy, so don't expect John Bonham out of it. I have to sit down tonight and figure out the bass parts and record them too. I'll have rhythm, bass and drums. Lead guitar is another animal. I don't do lead. Never had the desire to.

If you ever make it out this way, you're more than welcome to stop by!

I will be able to post pics, so Monday, you can look forward to seeing how she looks in front of a mic.

MIDI RULES! That's right, I said it. And if I look to my left... my drums are all miked up... but hey, midi saves the day regularely for me, cause I can lay down midi drums faster than I can play them right. Of course if it's an important project like my own songs I get a drummer... but for jingles and demos for a non-drummer it kicks with the right drum module.

And good luck I hope it works out, and if not... have a great time! I've been recording straight for 2 days now and it's been a ton of fun. I put the D6 away and rediscovered the beta 52 on kick.

Isn't that great? I love having a mic cab full of different choices. I find I settle on one setup for drums usually, but when I record myself playing, I start experimenting and find new applications or old choices that I'd forgotten about.

We got into the KickBall for awhile and are now back to the CAD KBM412. (I know you tried some CAD mics, but this one was not part of the package you got and returned, if I remember right.) It doesn't really matter what kick mic we use as it's really just support for the sub-kick mic which really carries the kick sound. I always double mic the kick and snare, (top and bottom.)

My newest configuration is using ribbons as overheads. This doesn't work for all players but is especially sweet for jazz players. (Using NADY, [don't say it,] RSM-2's for this purpose. We benched them and the two I got are nearly identical.) These mics have also been especially sweet on electric guitar cabs, vocals and acoustic guitar.

It's just going to be fun.

And as far as MIDI. I see you use it for "jingles" but when it's your own project you hire a drummer... Kind of says something, doesn't it?

but for a jingle, you don't really have the same personal interest in it as you would for your own music.

Sounds like a great time. Hope you all have fun!! Can't wait to hear/see about it!

I wish I had the means, I would have volunteered for the drum tracks!!
But alas, I do not have my acoustic kit set up and no way to record my electronic drum pad dealy

I'd say the same thing about MIDI drums.
It's better to lose some hours in front of a drums kit than programming a stupid drum loop.

Cool. I'm bored. Looking forward to listening to the songs and murdering them with lousy leads :P. Xark, I got no problem with .wav's . It's the RAW un-amp'ed and un-EQ'ed tracks that I have a problem creating.

I hope you guys have fun! I hope Liz likes it, the first time I was in a studio I felt like a deer in the headlights! I quickly grew to enjoy it though, since I've always enjoyed cussing, grinding my teeth and pulling my hair out. LOL
