I'm searching for a band to include myself in. I've been hiding out far too long. I don't plan on playing guitar in said band, at least not for a while. I'm still too green to play in front of real people. But, I'm going to find me a band to sing with. It's not going to be easy, considering my lack of connections in the area and the lack of rock music coming out of northern Utah, but it's on. I found a site that specializes in hooking up musicians with other musicians, but not a whole lot of demand for female lead singers in rock. I guess Utah just doesn't know what they'll be missing out on. Anyway, if you live in Utah, north of Salt Lake, and want to start a band, let me know. I need to do this. Enough thinking about it. Oh, and I AM NOT one of your typical bitchy primadonna lead singers who think they are too good to work. That's what's up.

good luck with that for real. i am so lucky to have dedicated players in my band who like playing with me and refuse to play with anyone else. They are beyond a doubt good friends and its great to have people with the same vision..I see so many bands breaking up or losing key players for all kinds of stupid reasons...the most important thing is that you all get along and have the same or similar vision...if you become close and get along your chances of keeping the band together will be greater.

good luck!!!!!!!

I'm glad you are gonna do it. It's too bad that you live in an area where there are not a lot of rock bands.

In the last couple of years there seems to be a trend of women fronting bands in my area, Charleston SC. The 2 that stand out the most are "Second Hand Rose" and "S'Witch". Both of these bands rock and the girls are high energy and front these bands well.

Go for it!

Go for it!!
Hope you start gigging soon...

I live in a country where only fairly high profile bands (locally though) get gigs...
So, I'm still searching

I don't know anything about Northern Utah, but I know if you're even remotely close to Salt Lake City, I'm SURE there are bands who need female singers and places to gig there. Punk/rock, and everything. Don't confine yourself to whatever 15 minute radius you live in. I've driven long distances to play with people I don't even know. There's always a way to make the music happen.

My advice, as someone who waited... erm... 15 years to try to get in a band. You're doing the right thing starting off getting out there ASAP. If someone asked me how long I reckoned you should learn before seeking out other players I'd probably tell them to get 3 chords nailed and then go for it.

Don't let the fact that a band might think they don't want a female lead singer stop you, make them rethink what they are doing.

Female leads are very cool IMHO. Just as long as it's not the whole biker chick vibe, but that's just me. In fact, most of my favorite bands have female leads.

Thanks for the support, guys. I am fairly close to Salt Lake, and there is a pretty good rock scene there, but My husband is a cheap ass and will not front the gas for me to go to SLC 4-5 times a week to practice and gig. I will probably have to go there to gig, but there are a few musicians I'm talking to that live much closer for rehearsal purposes. I've been looking on bandmix.com, which has a pretty large database of people. I'm excited. I'm getting a better response to my rock-oriented chick persona than I thought I would. I've gotten some messages from a band that has been gigging for a while looking for a female vocalist, but I think I want to start fresh. The guys in this band are cool, but they are in much different places in their lives, considering they are all 30+ years older than me. The search is still young, though. You guys all rock. :o)

"The guys in this band are cool, but they are in much different places in their lives, considering they are all 30+ years older than me."

There's nothing wrong at all with wanting to band up with people who you have common interests with and whom you are at a similar stage in life. It makes the process more fun. Looking for a band is a tiring process. It's almost like dating. You'll find that people will judge you on your looks, your dress and style, and your age. Some of them may even judge you on your musical ability...
