Just curious have any of you guys felt that some songs dont need a solo, like they need almost an extra theme or maybe even a break down you might say

I have had a song or two where I felt I could put a solo, but was like hey does it really need to be there I could do without....?

I know right.......... what Iam thinking? NO GUITAR SOLO WTF?!

any comments on such on a thing?

Steve,

There are songs that cry out for a lead, there are some that are so riff orientated that they don't need one.

Fear Factory did this really well, as did a few other bands. If it fits do it, if it doesn't leave it out.

This is one of my favourite guitar tracks of the last 40 years and it doesn't have a solo. It's probably also one of the best pop songs during that time as well - Alison by Elvis Costello

Nice song, I noticed it has a kind of release and tension thing with rhythm/lead but never over done or a "solo" feel

What fits man! If you wanna solo do it!! Do it with commitment to... Otherwise fuck it off! commit to ya song not ya instrument.

Summers does solo in this one, but it's not the typical solo one thinks of. This is a very driving song, and one of their best in my opinion. I can't imagine a shred type solo in this song. It would ruin it. It's also my opinion that the guitar should serve the song, not the other way around.

Honestly, I think a solo should be played ONLY if it takes the song somewhere.....

Having a solo for the sake of it is just lame...

I mean, the solo has to relate to the song, and has to help further it. I mean, look at the G3 version of Little Wing. I really dont think that worked out as well as Hendrix's 20 second solo, which was more like a riff, really. I mean, yeah, each of those guys played stuff that takes incredible technique and all, but honestly, it sucks
