hey, so I'm starting to get into songwriting. The sound I'm going for is velvet revolver.does anyone know the scales they use? Any tips on riffs or solos? Thanks

try playing some of velvet revolvers songs and then try changing things to get the feel of how the song is put together.

Try searching youtube, and looking at some "slash style" lessons, or lessons that help you play velvet revolver songs. Ive seen a few slash style videos that show you scales, riffs and solos that sound very slash and velvet revovler-esque.

try the blues scale or chromatic notes. VR use a lot of them. great for a groove too.
for solos again use blues scale and add some 'passing notes'. if you dont know what they are theyre notes which dont belong in the scale but sound good if you play them quickly. if you did know that then im sorry for insulting your intelligence. haha. bue basically just learn a load of blues licks. and as charles said play some VR songs. and some of the bands that influenced them like acdc and aerosmith. oh. and guns n roses would be a cool band to learn a few songs by for obvious reasons.
