I'm interested in hearing about your inspirations for songwriting (being lyrics or music). i personally admire Metallica, Iron Maiden (mainly for the lyrics), Manic Street Preachers (lyrics AND music), Pink Floyd (absolutely everything), and a few more. i think Pink Floyd would have to be one of my biggest inspirations for life and music. they grew up with sooooo much talent, and their songs have meaning, e.g Us And Them.
so who do you admire for their music/lyrics, and who inspire you to create.
thanks

Try to break your inspirations down a little more JTC

As I have a millon insprations, only 4 will make my list.

here it is(no real order)

1. Rise Against: One of the greatest bands of the modern age, a mix of everything and more. I give props to these guys cause they live what they preach. They are all vegetarians, and all in peta, and although they do preach about stuff such as environmental stuff, they dont get to discripitive so it means sooo much more.

2: Guns and Roses: These guys are better than true musicians, these guys worked there bones off on a label that didnt give a shit, and got nothing in return... untill of course there first hit, welcome to the jungle. These guys played what they wanted to play no matter if anyone would listen. and thats what makes them great.

3: Nirvana: Who cannot forget Nirvana, A Dream, A legend, and a Fall. Kirt had heart, weather it was clear to him that his music meant soo much more, i dont know but. Salute to the suicide/murder victim.

4the Beatles: The only music i have ever cried listening to, the only music where when i listen to and album i have more mood swings that my girlfriend on the rag. Greatest band of all time, Period.

Yea, but how to choose?

These favorite artist, band, inspiration questions always cause me trouble...

If you listen to my recordings and want to know where my sound comes from then you have to dig into all of these guys...

Sorry for over doing it... (It will never happen again) :)

Lyric's Inspiration

The Beatles - one of a very few amount of bands that can actually change my mood. i've always like john lennon better than paul though.

Pink Floyd - I remember i started liking Pink Floyd in 6th grade when i heard Money for the first town. i've listened to the Wall in order in one sitting several times now.

The Eagles - Hotel California, nuff said.

Biggie Smalls - k, has nothing to do with guitar whatsoever, and i know some of you are thinking "rap sucks" but he simple has the best flow out of anyone anywhere, and he will for all time. he's just insanely lyrically talented.

Guitar

Paul Gilbert - is insane.

System of a Down - the sound they get on B.Y.O.B. is amazing. i love it, it always makes me want to play.

Ottman Liebart - Amazing spanish guitar sounds. first riff i ever learned was the intro to barcelona nights.

Guitar Hero - not a band per se. but hey, it makes me want to play guitar.

Music Inspirations

DMX - i know, rap again, but i just like his songs in general.

The Who - amazing songs an amazing band.

Pink Floyd - Mostly stuff off of The Wall, amazing guitar, and some great lyrics

The Police - so bummed i didn't get to see them in St. Louis, i love Russians and Message in a Bottle

Tchaikovsky - i don't really listen to classical, but from what i've heard he's my favorite.

As far as Music I generally credit Van Halen, Ozzy, Pink Floyd, Steve Morse, Steve Vai and Queen. Lyrically Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) is rediculous (look at something like "Free Four" off of Obscured by Clouds - Brilliant).

My current inspiration involves mixing the skills and stage presence of Paul Gilbert (which I'll never have) with the energy and sound of Disturbed. ;)

I'm a lyric writing type of person, and I don't really have a band in particular that I get my inspiration from. I live through life every day, and if I feel like ranting or venting, I write lyrics. That's my inspiration.

I suppose that I wouldn't be able to write lyrics without some type of artist input, so my greatest lyrical influences would have to be James and Lars from Metallica, Linkin Park, their lyrics are meaningful if you look into them deep enough. Early Korn lyrics, at least from before the Greatest Hits era, were meaningful and well thought out, that's got to be a big inspiration for me. System Of A Down and their anti-war, anti-corruption lyrics are up there with Korn as a big inspiration.
